Pedro Acosta Aims to Revitalize KTM’s MotoGP Podium Hopes at Home Austrian Grand Prix
Pedro Acosta is upbeat and highly enthused about the race in Austria. Is it possible for Pedro Acosta to secure a spot for KTM on the MotoGP podium during their home event in Austria?
Rookie Pedro Acosta, who hasn't made it to the MotoGP podium in the last three races, is looking forward to competing in the upcoming Austrian round this weekend, which is considered a stronghold for his team, KTM, given it's their home ground.
Following an outstanding beginning of the season, marked by consecutive grand prix podium finishes in Portimao and COTA, Acosta and KTM have not made it to the podium celebrations on Sundays since then.
The youthful Spaniard continued to increase his tally of Sprint podium finishes at both Jerez and Mugello, yet this streak came to a halt at Assen, Sachsenring, and Silverstone.
"At the British Grand Prix, Acosta expressed his optimism by stating, 'I remain confident that as we head to Austria, Misano, Aragon, Thailand, and Japan, we will once again lead the pack.'"
The Red Bull Ring's abrupt stop-and-start characteristics align better with the RC16's capabilities, and KTM has the advantage of having fresh data from recent private tests.
"Tech3 team manager Nicolas Goyon stated that Pedro Acosta and Augusto Fernandez will have access to the full range of data collected by the test team from the trials conducted in Spielberg. This will empower them to excel and showcase their talents to the audience in Austria."
At Silverstone, Pedro returned to his scoring form, and it's clear that his quick adaptability and valuable experience gained in Austria will bolster his contention among the leaders. This confidence is further supported by the fact that a Pierer Mobility vehicle secured podium finishes in both the sprint and the main event last year.
In last year's Austrian competitions, Brad Binder from KTM secured the second-place spot behind Francesco Bagnaia in both events, while Acosta clinched the runner-up position in the Moto2 race.
In his inaugural Moto3 season in 2021, the rider with the #31 achieved his first win at the track.
"Acosta mentioned, "The circuit in Austria holds a unique place in the heart of the Pierer Mobility family and me."
"I enjoy this course and have had success here before, so let's see if we can maintain that positive trend this year."
"I'm eager to hit the track in front of our Austrian supporters, eager to demonstrate our continuous improvement race by race, aiming to provide them with the ultimate spectacle."
"I'm in high spirits and incredibly driven."
Acosta is set to be part of the official KTM squad next year, but his colleague Augusto Fernandez is on the lookout for a different team following the recruitment of Maverick Vinales and Enea Bastianini for the 2025 season.
Since transitioning to the 2024 model, Fernandez has experienced discomfort, a feeling that coincides with the shift from a steel frame to a carbon fibre chassis.
"Goyon mentioned that Augusto continues to face challenges and is in search of a standout performance. He believes that the demanding braking and turns at the Red Bull Ring will better complement their motorcycle and Augusto's approach, undoubtedly aiding in his speed improvement."
Acosta is competing against Maverick Vinales and soon-to-be teammate Brad Binder for the fifth position and the highest-ranked non-Ducati rider in the world championship standings, whereas Fernandez holds the 17th spot currently.
