Singapore Grand Prix F1 Driver Evaluations: Lando Norris Nearly Achieves a Perfect Score
Crash.net's assessment of drivers in the 2024 Singapore Grand Prix.
Lando Norris – 9.5
Norris showcased an outstanding display at the Marina Bay Street Circuit, securing a victory with a lead of more than 20 seconds over Verstappen. Nonetheless, a trio of errors throughout the race hindered him from achieving a flawless score of 10.
Max Verstappen – 9.5
Following what might be considered his least impressive performance with Red Bull in Azerbaijan, Verstappen made a strong recovery in Singapore. He fully exploited the capabilities of the RB20 to clinch an easy second-place finish. An effective effort to minimize losses.
Oscar Piastri – 6.5
Piastri's performance over the weekend was somewhat lackluster. Despite having the quickest vehicle in Singapore, ending up third and a significant 40 seconds away from the front runner was a letdown.
George Russell – 7.5
Heading into the qualifying rounds, Russell appeared to hold an advantage over Hamilton, but this advantage was not evident during the race due to his struggles with maintaining traction. However, a superior strategy played to his advantage, enabling him to gain a position ahead of his teammate.
Charles Leclerc – 8
A tactical mistake by Ferrari during the qualifying session hindered Leclerc's opportunity for a top position in Q3. The initial stages of his race were hampered by congestion on the track; however, he showcased impressive speed once he found open space. Leclerc's performance was notably strong, possibly the second fastest after Norris, suggesting he could have contended for a top-three finish if qualifying had unfolded differently.
Lewis Hamilton – 7.5
Hamilton showcased an outstanding qualifying effort this season, landing in third place for the start. This marked just the fifth occasion in 2024 where he managed to outpace Russell. Despite the promising start, opting for soft tyres resulted in a challenging race for Hamilton, ultimately finishing in sixth position.
Carlos Sainz – 6.5
An accident during Q3 resulted in Sainz starting from the 10th position. The opening lap was rough, prompting him to pit early in an attempt to get ahead of a few cars in the midfield. Even with the initial setbacks, he managed a commendable comeback.
Fernando Alonso – 9
An exemplary showing from Alonso once again, as he reached Q3 and clinched a respectable position within the points. An outstanding effort.
Nico Hulkenberg – 9
Hulkenberg consistently proves his prowess in qualifying, demonstrating that he's among the top performers. His successful weekend was highlighted by earning a much-deserved finish in the points.
Sergio Perez – 6
Following an impressive showing in Azerbaijan, Perez faced a harsh wake-up call in Singapore. Failing to advance past Q2, he managed only a 10th-place result in the grand prix. It was a challenging weekend for him.
Franco Colapinto – 8
Colapinto's performance remains remarkable. He finished qualifying just a fraction of a second behind Albon and executed an outstanding maneuver into the first corner, securing a spot in the top 10 right from the start.
Yuki Tsunoda – 7.5
Tsunoda emerged as one of the highlights during the qualifying round by advancing to Q3. Nonetheless, VCARB faced challenges with maintaining speed during the race, and their decision to move Tsunoda onto soft tires midway through the race raised some doubts.
Esteban Ocon – 7.5
Ocon delivered a solid performance for Alpine during the Singapore Grand Prix, consistently outperforming his teammate Gasly.
Lance Stroll – 6.5
At the Marina Bay Street Circuit, Stroll lagged significantly behind his teammate Alonso. Traditionally, this circuit has proven difficult for the Canadian racer.
Zhou Guanyu – 6.5
Zhou continued to face difficulties in qualifying at the Singapore Grand Prix, lagging almost 0.4 seconds behind Bottas. Despite this, he was able to surpass his teammate during the race, passing Bottas shortly after it began.
Valtteri Bottas – 6.5
Bottas maximized the performance of his Sauber during the qualifying rounds, yet he could only secure the 19th spot. In the race, he fell behind Zhou following early problems with his brakes.
Pierre Gasly – 6
Gasly had a disappointing weekend, falling behind both drivers from Sauber in terms of pace.
Daniel Ricciardo – 6
Potentially marking Ricciardo's last weekend in Formula 1, he faced difficulties. Eliminated in the first qualifying round because of problems with the soft tires, his race performance didn't meet expectations. However, he managed to secure the fastest lap, bringing joy to Verstappen.
Kevin Magnussen – 6
This time, Magnussen trailed Hulkenberg in the qualifying rounds, and his racing efforts were derailed by a tire puncture after coming into contact with a wall.
Alex Albon – 6.5
Following a disappointing start, Albon opted for an early pit stop in an attempt to regain his position. However, his race came to an early end because of a presumed issue with the power unit.
