No Further Action: FIM MotoGP Stewards Clear Bagnaia and Marquez After Aragon Clash
FIM MotoGP Officials deliver decision on Francesco Bagnaia, Alex Marquez incident
Following the collision between Francesco Bagnaia and Alex Marquez at Sunday's Aragon MotoGP, FIM Stewards have issued their judgment.
The FIM MotoGP Stewards have decided not to take any additional measures after the intense incident involving current world champion Francesco Bagnaia and Alex Marquez during the final moments of Sunday's Aragon Grand Prix.
Bagnaia, bouncing back from yet another disappointing beginning, attempted to overtake the Spanish rider but went off track on the left bend of Turn 12, with slightly more than 5 laps remaining.
The Italian racer slightly led, maintaining the racing path, as he maneuvered in front of the Gresini competitor, entering the subsequent right curve.
However, Marquez ended up cornered on the interior and inadvertently struck the rear of the red vehicle, causing both riders and motorcycles to skid across the gravel.
Bagnaia found himself trapped beneath Marquez's bike during their fall, but luckily, both were able to walk away unharmed.
Following the incident, the FIM Stewards promptly initiated an investigation and subsequently interviewed each rider individually after the race concluded.
On Sunday night, the officials stated their determination of taking 'no additional measures' through an explanation.
The clash involving Bagnaia, bearing the number 1, and Marquez, with the number 73, during the 18th lap at Turn 13, came under scrutiny and was examined post-race.
The FIM MotoGP Stewards conducted interviews with each of the riders involved to understand their viewpoints on the incident. They also examined various video footage and other accessible images, as well as data from the motorcycles.
In the session, both competitors conveyed that traction away from the usual track path was challenging, and according to the Stewards' perspective, this played a role in limiting the riders' options to evade collision in this instance.
"After thoroughly reviewing all aspects and without any decisive evidence, the FIM MotoGP Stewards have determined that no single rider can be held chiefly accountable for the incident."
Marc Marquez, who is both a team member and sibling of Alex, clinched victory in the race, while Jorge Martin, coming in second, extended his lead over Bagnaia to 23 points as they head into the upcoming Misano event next weekend.
