MotoGP Secures Three-Year Indian Grand Prix Return at Buddh International Circuit Starting 2025
MotoGP secures a new deal for the Indian Grand Prix to make a comeback
India will rejoin the MotoGP schedule for the years 2025 through 2027.
Removed from the schedule this year, a new deal has been struck to bring the Indian MotoGP back for the next three seasons.
Dorna has entered into a fresh agreement with 'Invest UP', the agency under the Government of Uttar Pradesh responsible for promoting foreign investments in the region.
An announcement about the agreement highlighted that it is 'exclusively between Dorna Sports, the MotoGP rights holder, and the Uttar Pradesh government'.
The deal ensures that India will feature on the schedule from 2025 through 2027 at the Buddh International Circuit, which hosted MotoGP for the first time last year and was set to host the event again this September.
Nevertheless, it was later revealed that the 2024 round would be called off because of 'operational considerations' and rescheduled for early 2025.
The comeback has been confirmed.
Dorna CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta expressed his delight in revealing a fresh pact established directly with the Uttar Pradesh government.
The first Indian Grand Prix was a significant success, greatly benefiting both MotoGP and our host area of Uttar Pradesh. It's wonderful that we can keep developing this partnership moving forward.
India represents a crucial market for MotoGP, boasting a strong and well-established fan base for the sport, and we are confident that this following can grow significantly.
"Every day, hundreds of millions of two-wheeled vehicles are utilized throughout the nation, highlighting their importance to manufacturers and the sport, especially due to MotoGP being the premier event for these vehicles."
"We are thrilled to partner with the Uttar Pradesh government to reintroduce MotoGP to India, specifically to UP and the Buddh International Circuit, for the upcoming three seasons."
The 2024 MotoGP schedule has seen the removal of three events, including the race in India, along with Argentina and Kazakhstan. Initially, the postponed Sokol event was meant to replace the Indian race for this year, but it too was cancelled. Consequently, a second race at Misano has been added to the calendar.
