Moto2 Leader Sergio Garcia Eyes MotoGP Leap Despite Contractual Hurdles: ‘The Goal for Next Year is the Championship and MotoGP
Moto2 championship frontrunner Sergio Garcia: "I received offers to join MotoGP, but…"
"I'm disappointed that I'm not racing in MotoGP. My objective for the next year is to clinch the championship title and advance straight to MotoGP."
Should Sergio Garcia maintain his lead in the Moto2 rankings, he will follow in the footsteps of Tito Rabat (2014) and Johann Zarco (2015) by attempting to defend his championship instead of advancing immediately to MotoGP.
As Ai Ogura, along with Fermin Aldeguer and likely Somkiat Chantra, are set to advance to the premier class in 2025, Garcia has been confirmed to stay with the MT Helmets-MSi team.
The Spanish rider mentioned that he had opportunities to transition to MotoGP next season with Pramac Yamaha and Trackhouse Aprilia. However, these possibilities did not materialize. He clarified, "It wasn’t my choice or the teams' choice."
“This year, I received proposals from a couple of motorcycle companies, but for various reasons, I couldn't accept them,” Garcia mentioned to MotoGP.pl. “I’m pleased because getting offers from MotoGP teams has always been a dream of mine.”
"I received offers from Pramac Yamaha, Aprilia, and Trackhouse. So why didn't I join them? I can't reveal that, but it wasn't my decision or the teams' choice. I'm just happy that I got offers," he said mysteriously.
Garcia will remain in the Moto2 class for a third consecutive season. If he secures the championship this year, he will aim to become a two-time Moto2 champion, following in Zarco's footsteps.
“I’m happy to continue with them for another year,” Garcia commented about his Moto2 team sponsored by Boscoscuro, which replaced the Pons team on the Moto2 grid this season.
"My aim for this season was to join MotoGP, but I wasn't able to achieve that. I believe that for next season, I'm with the best team to move up to the premier class in 2026."
"I’m disappointed about not being a MotoGP rider. My aim for the coming year is to win the championship and secure a spot in MotoGP. I believe I can reach these goals next year."
Pramac has not yet revealed the riders for its upcoming Yamaha project. However, Miguel Oliveira and Jack Miller are expected to handle the factory-spec M1 bikes. Meanwhile, it has been confirmed that Ogura will join Raul Fernandez at Trackhouse.
Garcia enters the Aragon round this weekend with a 20-point advantage over his teammate Ogura, who had to pull out of the recent Austrian round because of an injury to his right hand.
