Miguel Oliveira acknowledges ongoing negotiations to become part of Yamaha's satellite team
Miguel Oliveira has announced that he is engaged in "very positive negotiations" with Yamaha for a spot on the Pramac MotoGP team in 2025.
The Trackhouse Aprilia team announced on Thursday, prior to the Austrian Grand Prix, that Ai Ogura from Moto2 will join them for the 2025 season. Consequently, it was officially confirmed that the five-time MotoGP race winner will be departing the team at the end of the year.
Oliveira has been widely believed to have chosen to ride for Yamaha with Pramac next year, and he has verified that conversations are ongoing.
On Thursday, he mentioned to motogp.com that they are currently engaged in very promising discussions with Yamaha regarding the Pramac seat for the future.
"We are optimistic that we can have a more detailed discussion about this possibility in the coming weeks."
Oliveira finds the Pramac choice particularly appealing because of Yamaha's efforts to enhance its motorcycle for upcoming seasons.
A crucial aspect of this strategy involves securing Pramac as a satellite team with factory support, especially since the Japanese brand has only had two bikes on the grid for the last two seasons.
He mentioned that Yamaha's forward-thinking approach is quite appealing and it will yield benefits in the near future.
"Their team of riders is very impressive. The factory team includes Alex Rins and Fabio Quartararo. However, what they lack is a top-notch satellite team that can provide additional data and insights on bikes of the same specifications, which would help accelerate the project's progress towards its goals."
"I hope it occurs and that I am part of it to witness positive developments."
Oliveira is anticipated to be accompanied by Jack Miller, who has been given a second chance by Pramac following concerns before the summer break that his career in MotoGP might be over.
Miller has verified that he has discussed remaining in MotoGP, with reports suggesting that Yamaha has chosen to bring in an experienced duo at Pramac to speed up the development of its M1.
Yamaha has signed new two-year factory contracts with 2021 world champion Quartararo and his teammate Rins, extending their tenure until the conclusion of 2026.
