**”Mental Shift and Unique Riding Style Propel Enea Bastianini into MotoGP Title Contention Amidst Ducati’s Dominance”**
Enea Bastianini's rise to success was driven by a significant transformation, according to Davide Tardozzi, who highlighted a pivotal adjustment made during the summer.
Usually, when the MotoGP World Championship is highly competitive, it makes the participating factories anxious. However, for the 2024 season, the situation is such that although four riders are in contention for the title, they all come from a single manufacturer.
The year 2023 highlighted ongoing tensions among various teams working on a factory's MotoGP project. However, Ducati Lenovo Team manager Davide Tardozzi expressed that Ducati takes great pride in having four of its riders competing for the championship.
So, it's noteworthy that having four Ducati riders as contenders for the championship is a fairly new development, sparked by Enea Bastianini's two victories at Silverstone, which brought the 2020 Moto2 World Champion into the mix.
"Enea remains in the running for the championship," Tardozzi informed British network TNT Sports following last Sunday's British Grand Prix. "He is currently 49 points off the lead, but with 370 points still available, I believe he has a significant chance of becoming the World Champion."
This places Bastianini in competition with fellow Ducati riders Francesco Bagnaia, Jorge Martin, and Marc Marquez for this year’s championship. Bastianini, wearing the #23, has moved up to third in the standings after surpassing Marquez during the race in Britain.
Prior to the Silverstone event, Bastianini was not seen as a contender for the championship, even though he was just 11 points behind Marquez following the German Grand Prix at the Sachsenring.
"It was definitely his mindset," Tardozzi responded when questioned about what had transformed for Bastianini during the summer hiatus from Germany to Britain, propelling him into the championship race.
"Over the holidays, he spent a lot of time reflecting. He had many discussions, primarily with his race engineer, Marco Rigamonti. I believe he has regained the mindset he had in 2022."
"Following an injury the previous year, he faced difficulties throughout 2023. This year, he began with the mindset that he couldn't continue, which led to a lack of focus on his work."
"We're fully aware that he is an incredibly fast rider and will once more be in the running for the title."
With this renewed mindset, Bastianini was able to take full advantage of his riding technique. This advantage was particularly evident at Silverstone, where he managed to preserve the rear tyre's grip more effectively than his competitors.
Tardozzi noted that the way he accelerates is quite distinct, and the pace he maintains when entering corners with worn tires is exceptional — he is the sole Ducati rider capable of this. This, Tardozzi emphasized, is a testament to his talent.
