McLaren’s Stella Claps Back at Rivals Over Rear Wing Saga: Focus Lost Amidst F1 Flexi-Wing Furore
Andrea Stella criticizes "unfocused" F1 competitors for their preoccupation with McLaren's contentious rear wing
"It's actually beneficial for us when our rivals lose focus on such matters, as it indicates they're not concentrating on their own performance…"
Andrea Stella has responded to McLaren's competitors, accusing them of being overly "distracted" and not concentrating on their own performance amidst the continuing debate over flexible F1 rear wings.
McLaren secured yet another pole position, this time with Lando Norris outpacing Max Verstappen to take the top spot.
Norris established a 0.2-second lead ahead of his primary Formula 1 championship competitor, aiming to close the 59-point gap with Verstappen.
In the lead-up to the Singapore Grand Prix taking place this weekend, McLaren's rear wing has come under intense examination.
After Oscar Piastri's victory in Azerbaijan, footage appeared online showing their car's rear wing bending along Baku's main straight.
The FIA has now requested that McLaren implement changes to it.
The Woking team has maintained that their vehicle complies with regulations and they have proposed to implement a modification.
Following the qualifying round in Singapore, Stella spoke to Sky Sports and gave a firm reply to inquiries regarding the rear wing.
The Italian states that the adjustment has "no effect whatsoever".
"Stella remarked, 'Honestly, it has no impact whatsoever. We observed it firsthand today. It's actually beneficial for us when our rivals get sidetracked by such matters, as it indicates they're not concentrating on their own progress. For us, it's simply a plus.'"
"We are fully confident that this concern being raised is somewhat misleading. The wing complies with regulations."
"There isn't a specific topic, actually. It seems to be merely a narrative, yet it appears everyone is in search of tales. It's beneficial; it's advantageous for us."
"We remain grounded and dedicated, consistently improving and making advancements. Our actions on the racecourse speak for us."
McLaren is at the forefront of the F1 constructors' standings, holding a 20-point advantage as they approach the race on Sunday at the Marina Bay Street Circuit.
