McLaren Under Pressure: Management’s Discontent and Rosberg’s Insights on F1 Challenges
McLaren's senior leadership is reportedly extremely frustrated following a series of mishaps in Formula 1, with internal pressures mounting to rectify these mistakes. "It's clear there's now a significant push within the organization to correct these issues," was conveyed.
2016 Formula 1 world champion Nico Rosberg thinks that the top brass at McLaren is increasingly feeling the heat to leverage their strong showing, following a missed opportunity to clinch a win at the British Grand Prix.
McLaren's strategy to equip Lando Norris with soft tires towards the end of the British Grand Prix played a crucial role in Lewis Hamilton securing his initial victory of 2021.
It became evident when Oscar Piastri switched to medium tires, recording the fastest speed among all drivers in the final laps.
Despite demonstrating impressive speed on numerous occasions, McLaren has only managed to secure a single victory.
A victory in Canada might have been secured if they had anticipated the Safety Car's appearance, whereas in Barcelona, a mix of mistakes from the driver and tactical misjudgments led to their downfall.
During his appearance on Sky’s coverage of the Hungarian Grand Prix, Rosberg shared that he had heard whispers about the top executives at McLaren, who are stationed in Bahrain, becoming increasingly dissatisfied with the team's ongoing winless streak.
"Rosberg mentioned, 'This introduces a shift where all of a sudden, you're in contention for victories at every race weekend.'"
"The dynamics have changed. Minor flaws are becoming more pronounced. I've learned that there's certainly an internal push now to rectify these mistakes."
"Furthermore, I've caught wind that the Middle Eastern executives are quite upset, as there have been several victories that have unfortunately slipped through their fingers recently. They're actually doing quite well. Andrea [Stella] is doing an outstanding job too."
Despite the mistakes they've made in their operations, Rosberg has highly commended McLaren for the advancements they've achieved in the past year.
"He expressed his amazement once more, stating, 'The progress since the latter part of the previous year has been extraordinary. The rate at which that team evolves is astonishing. Their ability to surpass the development pace of others is truly remarkable.'"
"Lando is performing at the top of his game. For years, I've consistently maintained that he's a potential world champion. Currently, he's in the race for this year's world championship, albeit with a slim chance."
