Max Verstappen Pays Heartfelt Tribute to ‘Great Guy’ Daniel Ricciardo After Potential Final F1 Race
Max Verstappen honors Daniel Ricciardo, calling him a "great guy," after what might be Ricciardo's last F1 race. Verstappen reflects on his strong bond with the Australian driver following the event.
Max Verstappen has honored Daniel Ricciardo following what might be the last Formula 1 race of the Australian driver's career, which took place at the Singapore Grand Prix.
Liam Lawson is anticipated to take Daniel Ricciardo's place at VCARB starting with the upcoming race at the Circuit of the Americas.
Amidst the widespread rumors about Ricciardo’s future, the ex-Red Bull driver appeared contemplative in several media interviews.
Potentially participating in his last F1 race, Ricciardo contributed modestly to increasing Verstappen's advantage in the championship standings.
As the race approached its closing laps, Lando Norris, who was leading, also held the record for the quickest lap, securing him an additional point.
Nevertheless, Ricciardo took a third pit stop towards the end of the race to switch to new soft tires, during which he managed to clock the fastest lap.
This signifies that Verstappen's advantage over Norris is 52 points rather than 51 as they head to the United States next month.
Via team communication, Verstappen expressed gratitude to his previous teammate.
Horner informed Verstappen over the team radio that his former teammate Daniel had secured the fastest lap.
Verstappen responded by saying, "Thanks, Daniel!"
For three years, Verstappen and Ricciardo were teammates at Red Bull. Despite a well-known crash between them during the 2018 Azerbaijan Grand Prix, they managed to keep a strong friendship.
The world champion, who has won the title three times, shared the reasons behind his strong bond with Ricciardo.
Max Verstappen mentioned to Sky that he shares a long history with Daniel. He explained that they've consistently enjoyed a strong bond and mutual respect. Verstappen described their friendship as genuine, noting that they get along effortlessly and that there's no pretense in their interactions.
"We have a good relationship and get along effortlessly. That's just how we are."
"He will be known for his incredible speed on the track and also for being a genuinely nice person in the paddock."
