Max Verstappen Honors Daniel Ricciardo as a ‘Great Guy’ Following His Potential Final F1 Grand Prix
Max Verstappen honors "wonderful person" Daniel Ricciardo following what may be his last race in F1
Max Verstappen shares insights into his strong bond with Daniel Ricciardo following the Australian's potentially last appearance in F1.
Max Verstappen has honored Daniel Ricciardo following what might be the Australian racer's last Formula 1 competition at the Singapore Grand Prix.
It's anticipated that for the upcoming race at the Circuit of the Americas, Liam Lawson will be taking over Ricciardo's spot at VCARB.
Amid widespread rumors about Ricciardo's career prospects, the ex-Red Bull racer took a contemplative tone in several media interactions.
In what might be his last appearance in Formula 1, Ricciardo contributed modestly to extending Verstappen's lead in the championship standings.
As the race neared its conclusion, Lando Norris, who was in the lead, also held the quickest lap, earning him an additional point.
Nonetheless, Ricciardo opted for a third pit stop towards the end of the race to switch to new soft tyres, during which he recorded the quickest lap time.
This implies that Verstappen's advantage over Norris has increased to 52 points, rather than 51, as they head to the United States for the next race.
Through the team's communication system, Verstappen expressed his gratitude to his previous teammate.
"Horner informed Verstappen via the team radio that his good friend Daniel secured the quickest lap."
Verstappen responded, "Thanks, Daniel!"
During their three-year stint as teammates at Red Bull, Verstappen and Ricciardo managed to keep their friendship solid, even after a notable crash during the 2018 Azerbaijan Grand Prix.
The thrice-crowned global champion detailed the reasons behind his strong connection with Ricciardo.
"Daniel and I have a long history together," Verstappen shared with Sky. "We've maintained a strong bond and friendship, deeply respecting one another. He's a genuinely great person. Our connection is natural. There's nothing insincere about him.
"We simply vibe well together, very relaxed. That's how we are."
"He'll be commemorated for his exceptional speed behind the wheel. It's widely acknowledged, but he's also recognized as a wonderful person within the paddock."
