Marquez Dominates MotoGP Aragon Sprint as Bagnaia Struggles to Ninth, Martin Takes Championship Lead
MotoGP Aragon Sprint: Marc Marquez Leads, Francesco Bagnaia Drops to Ninth
Marc Marquez secured a commanding win in the MotoGP Aragon Sprint, as Francesco Bagnaia struggled and fell back to ninth place from the beginning.
Marc Marquez secured his inaugural win with Gresini Ducati in the MotoGP Aragon Sprint, as Jorge Martin ascended to the top of the championship standings, with Francesco Bagnaia losing ground.
In the end, Marquez secured victory by 2.9 seconds. At certain points during the race, his lead extended to nearly four seconds, showcasing his considerably superior speed compared to the other competitors.
Although Jorge Martin couldn't keep up with Marquez's speed, he was faster than Pedro Acosta, which secured him a solid second place. On the other hand, Acosta comfortably finished in third, marking KTM's first podium finish since Acosta's third place in the Italian Sprint.
Alex Marquez finished in fourth position, just in front of Miguel Oliveira, and it was in this group that Francesco Bagnaia's difficulties were evident.
The Italian racer lost traction on his rear tire at the start, dropping to sixth place. Much like Jorge Martin's unfortunate slide through the ranks in the previous year's Qatar Grand Prix due to a similar start line mishap, Bagnaia started to lose positions from the third lap onward. A mistake at turn five let Marquez and Oliveira overtake him, and going wide at turn eight allowed Brad Binder to claim sixth place from Bagnaia.
Following the Italian rider was Fabio Quartararo, but during their contest, Enea Bastianini capitalized on the situation to claim seventh place. On the final lap, Quartararo overtook at turn five, pushing Bagnaia down to ninth. The defending champion then successfully defended against Marco Bezzecchi's challenge at turn 15 on the back straight, maintaining his ninth-place position. Bezzecchi had to be content with finishing in 10th place.
Aleix Espargaro had an accident at the first corner, while Johann Zarco and Franco Morbidelli also had to withdraw from the race.
