Marquez Clinches Commanding Victory at Aragon MotoGP Sprint, Bagnaia Faces Setback to Ninth
In the MotoGP Aragon Sprint, Marc Marquez clinched a commanding win as Francesco Bagnaia fell significantly to finish in ninth place, struggling right from the outset.
Marc Marquez claimed his inaugural win for Gresini Ducati in the MotoGP Aragon Sprint, as Jorge Martin ascended to the top of the championship standings, overtaking Francesco Bagnaia who fell behind in the race.
Marquez ultimately triumphed with a 2.9-second lead, although at certain points his advantage extended to about four seconds, showcasing his notably superior speed compared to the rest of the field.
Despite Jorge Martin not being able to keep up with Marquez's speed, he managed to outperform Pedro Acosta, securing a solid second place. Acosta, on the other hand, comfortably clinched third, marking KTM's first podium appearance since his third-place finish in the Italian Sprint.
Alex Marquez secured the fourth position, surpassing Miguel Oliveira, and it was during their competition that Francesco Bagnaia's challenges were evident.
The Italian rider lost traction at the start, dropping to sixth place as his rear tyre spun out. Mirroring Jorge Martin's decline in the previous year's Qatar Grand Prix due to a similar issue at the start, Bagnaia started to lose positions from the third lap. A mistake at turn five, veering off the track, gave Marquez and Oliveira the chance to overtake him. Subsequently, Brad Binder overtook him for the sixth position when Bagnaia missed his line and went wide at turn eight.
Next in line for the Italian was Fabio Quartararo, however, during their fight for position, Enea Bastianini capitalized on the situation to grab seventh place. On the final lap, at the fifth turn, Quartararo made his decisive move, pushing Bagnaia down to ninth. Despite this, the defending champion managed to fend off Marco Bezzecchi's attempt to overtake him on the back straight at the fifteenth turn, securing ninth place for himself. Consequently, Bezzecchi had to be content with finishing in 10th place.
Aleix Espargaro experienced a crash at the opening turn, leading to retirements for both Johann Zarco and Franco Morbidelli as well.
