Technical issues disrupt Marco Bezzecchi's Friday session at the British MotoGP
Despite encountering engine problems during the afternoon practice session, Marco Bezzecchi had a challenging Friday at the British MotoGP that ultimately turned out well as he advanced to Q2.
Results from Friday's practice session for the 2024 British MotoGP at Silverstone.
“It was a hectic day, but luckily the outcome wasn’t terrible,” he mentioned to the press, including Crash.net, from the Silverstone paddock.
"We encountered some problems this morning and then again in the afternoon. As a result, we weren't able to complete multiple consecutive laps. I had to do shorter runs, particularly in the afternoon."
Bezzecchi's strong performance during his time attack was a pleasant surprise for him, especially given that he had fallen significantly behind on his long-distance runs.
"Luckily, I managed to complete some time attack laps and secured a spot in the top 10 for Q2. I’m pleased with this achievement, but we need to put in a lot of effort tomorrow to improve our race pace, as we are currently lagging behind."
When questioned about what he needs to improve his race speed, Bezzecchi responded: "To be honest, I'm not sure because I've never had the opportunity to complete a proper run."
"The core problem was that we could never achieve a solid performance using the same set of tires, so right now, I’m uncertain!"
The Italian described his emotions when he encountered what seemed to be an engine issue in the afternoon.
"I’m not entirely sure what the problem was, as the team is still investigating," he stated.
"The bicycle was functional, but it lacked power when I attempted to jump-start it."
"That's the reason I was rushing with the bike to return it to the pits – I didn’t have enough tires to last through the rest of the session."
Luckily for the #72, he has tomorrow morning to work on refining his long race pace ahead of Q2.
"The team is currently analyzing the data to identify the issue. Unfortunately, the session was very brief for me, and I couldn't complete a standard run as I had only one bike. Therefore, I'm dissatisfied with my race pace."
