### “Marc Marquez’s Costly Error: Austrian MotoGP Sprint Hopes Dashed by Turn Three Crash
Marc Marquez made an error at a critical moment during the Austrian MotoGP Sprint. Up until the crash, he had been enjoying a strong weekend while pursuing the race leader.
The Austrian MotoGP Sprint seemed to be favoring Marc Marquez after the race reached its midpoint, but he crashed just as he was closing in on the leader.
Marquez began the race strongly, securing the third position early on. Initially, he fell behind Francesco Bagnaia and Jorge Martin within the first few laps. However, when Martin received a penalty for bypassing the 2a-2b chicane, the Gresini Ducati racer moved up to second place.
He was leading Bagnaia by 1.5 seconds, and by the ninth lap, he had cut the gap by 0.3 seconds. Shortly after, he suffered a crash at the third turn.
In an interview with MotoGP.com, Marquez expressed that while it was tough to come to terms with, he was pleased with how things went on Saturday.
"The performance was evident. I understand where the error occurred. After the qualifying session, I mentioned in the parc ferme that I was slightly lagging behind the leading competitors, and during the Sprint, I took excessive risks."
"I actually believed I could overtake Pecco Bagnaia in the final laps because I felt extremely confident with the bike."
Following the race, Bagnaia explained to MotoGP.com that he had been controlling the distance and adjusting engine settings to gather insights for Sunday's competition, which clarified his slower times to Marquez.
Marquez stated that he had only started his offensive when he experienced a crash.
He mentioned that he felt confident, knowing that the final laps of the Sprint would be his strength since he performs better with worn tires compared to new ones.
"In the initial stages, I attempt to handle the situation. However, when I began my offensive and was actually maintaining a good speed, I made an error at the third turn."
"I had a strong weekend, but we made an error at the most inopportune time."
Due to his error, Marquez indicated that he plans to adopt a new strategy for the Grand Prix.
"I noticed throughout the weekend that they are slightly ahead of us," he remarked. "Today, I attempted to close that gap, but I took too many risks. So, for tomorrow, the goal is to secure third place on the podium and complete the race."
