Marc Marquez Weighs In on Controversial Bagnaia-Alex Marquez Collision at Aragon MotoGP
Marc Marquez discusses his perspective on the crash involving Pecco Bagnaia and Alex Marquez
The collision between Marc Marquez’s sibling and his soon-to-be partner was the most notable event at the Aragon MotoGP.
Marc Marquez has shared his thoughts on the collision between Francesco Bagnaia and Alex Marquez at the Aragon MotoGP.
Marquez, who ultimately clinched victory in the Aragon race with a five-second lead over Jorge Martin, remained relatively neutral in his comments. However, he appeared to suggest that his future teammate, Bagnaia, was more to blame, describing Bagnaia's attitude as "optimistic".
"I witnessed it," Marquez mentioned during the press conference held after the race, referring to the incident.
"It seems that Alex took a wide turn. He was still on the track, but he didn't anticipate encountering Pecco [Bagnaia] at that right-hand corner."
"Pecco was hopeful about passing him on the outside, aiming to use the clear path, because taking the dusty route increases the danger."
Marquez described the incident as quite unfortunate and expressed his hopes that both individuals involved are fine.
Due to the crash, Bagnaia has fallen to 23 points behind Martin in the championship standings before the Misano double-header, after previously leading by five points at the start of this weekend.
In 2024, Bagnaia experienced another significant incident involving a Gresini Ducati. This followed his collision with Marc Marquez at the Portuguese Grand Prix and their clash while competing for the win at the Spanish Grand Prix.
The dynamic between Bagnaia and the elder Marquez sibling is currently one of the most closely watched in MotoGP. They are anticipated to compete against each other for the World Championship titles in 2025 and 2026, all while being teammates in the factory Ducati team.
