Marc Marquez Urges Honda to Embrace Change with New Tech Boss Hire Amid MotoGP Struggles
Marc Marquez urges Honda to set aside their ego with the appointment of a new technical director
"Bringing on board an engineer capable of accelerating progress is a cost-effective move for a manufacturer"
Marc Marquez has talked about Honda's updated approach in appointing a new technical director for his previous team.
Romano Albesiano, known for turning Aprilia into a competitive force in MotoGP, is set to lead Honda's technical team starting in 2025.
This marks the most recent significant move by the floundering Japanese maker in an effort to regain its competitive edge.
It marks a significant shift in mindset to appoint a European to a key, high-level position.
Marquez, who left Honda last year because of his dissatisfaction with the project, admitted to Marca on Friday at the Japanese MotoGP, “I was unaware.”
"In my view, Honda boasts the most extensive facilities and the biggest budget among the teams in the paddock."
"The problem ultimately lies in the fact that the decision-makers are individuals, human beings, a small group of three or four individuals who oversee the project."
"I've always maintained that employing an engineer capable of streamlining processes is cost-effective for a manufacturing plant.
"I believe this represents another advancement in Honda's current technological journey: working to reduce durations in order to return to peak performance, something they will accomplish."
"However, if bringing in engineers from other plants who can offer instant fixes, bypassing the need for research, can reduce downtime, that's cost-effective for a manufacturing facility."
"I've always held the belief that regardless of how insistently they request another technician, or how fervently the engineer pleads for additional resources, it remains a cost-effective choice. This is because the alternative, attempting to piece things together, can prove to be far more costly."
Ultimately, you do find one, indeed. However, for me, bringing on board a new technical director is a victory. I'm not familiar with the engineer's capabilities, yet it's a win if they're moving in that direction.
Marquez went on to say, "The problem lies in the fact that taking too much pride in competing is detrimental. In the realm of competition, there are times you'll find victory and times you'll face defeat.
"When you're defeated, it's essential to set aside your ego and recognize that others are outperforming you."
"Some individuals grasp it early on, while others comprehend it after a while. However, in my case, it's not about a deficiency in pride, but rather, it's about wisdom."
"Observe what competitors are doing, such as Yamaha in this instance, and if they are reducing times ahead of you, follow suit."
Marquez has maintained a respectful rapport with his former team after moving to Gresini Ducati this season.
After clinching his inaugural grand prix victory on a Ducati, he made a point to reunite with his old Honda teammates to partake in the festivities together.
Honda has revealed an interesting development by hiring Albesiano from Aprilia for the upcoming year.
Aleix Espargaro is set to transition from racing for Aprilia to taking on a testing role with Honda, which will reunite him with Albesiano.
