Marc Marquez Targets Top Three Finish in MotoGP Championship, Grades His Season an 8/10
Marc Marquez considers third place in the championship a "good target" and gives his performance an "8 out of 10."
Marquez evaluates his first nine MotoGP races with Gresini Ducati.
Marc Marquez has rated his performance at Gresini Ducati an 8 out of 10 as he prepares to compete with Enea Bastianini for the third spot in the MotoGP World Championship.
Marquez is currently in third place in the rankings, trailing Francesco Bagnaia by 56 points and Jorge Martin by 24 points. He leads Bastianini by 11 points, who he will replace in the factory Ducati team in 2025.
In the opening segment of the season, performance has been solid but not outstanding, according to Marquez. Reflecting on his climb from 13th place on the starting grid to securing his fifth podium finish for Gresini in nine races, Marquez acknowledged that some errors had been made. This achievement took place on Sunday at the Sachsenring.
“It might be a reasonable goal to aim for a top-three finish in the championship, as keeping Enea at bay will be challenging. He is a quick competitor.
"Besides that, our main focus for the second half of the season should be to aim for a flawless weekend without any issues."
"We will continue our efforts and learn from Ducati's top riders, Martin and Bagnaia, who currently have an edge over us in speed."
Marquez aims to eliminate his errors as the MotoGP season resumes at Silverstone in early August. He reflected on his performance so far:
“In my opinion, I’d rate it an eight out of ten. The season began well, but there were a few errors. The major ones were in Austin and during the Sprint race in Assen.”
"The races went fine, though our performance varied over the weekends."
"We managed to conserve resources in Le Mans and in other races, but we need to figure out how to be more consistent throughout the weekend, get into Q2 directly, and work on improving our performance on Saturdays."
The following top competitor in the world championship riding a GP23 Ducati is VR46's Fabio di Giannantonio, who trails Marquez by 74 points and holds the eighth position.
Alex Marquez, who is both Marc's brother and teammate, secured a spot on the podium at the Sachsenring and currently holds the tenth position in the world championship standings.
