**Marc Marquez Faces Toughest Weekend Yet: British MotoGP Woes and Ducati Discomfort**
Marc Marquez sensed that "something was amiss" and described it as the "toughest weekend on a Ducati." Observers noted that "when Marc is struggling, he tends to handle the bike as if it's a Honda."
Marc Marquez faced a tough British MotoGP, marking his most challenging race of the season so far.
The Gresini racer secured the fourth position in Sunday's grand prix, just a day after a crash forced him out of the sprint race while he was in fourth place.
He has given up his third-place position in the MotoGP rankings to Enea Bastianini, who made headlines by winning both the sprint and the grand prix.
Neil Hodgson of TNT Sports commented that it was Marquez's most challenging weekend on the Ducati.
"Showed inconsistency during practice sessions, made errors, and experienced crashes. Was eliminated from the sprint race due to a crash."
"He appeared uneasy the entire time."
"There were glimpses of the Marquez of old, attempting to gain time during braking. He overshot the apexes."
“We observed some overhead shots where the exits were visible. He would gain ground by two bike lengths when entering, but he would then lose five bike lengths upon exiting.”
"You can tell Marc is having a rough weekend because he handles it as if he were riding a Honda, and it just doesn't go well."
Marquez spent a significant portion of Sunday’s race in fifth place, but later in the event, he managed to pass Aleix Espargaro.
He was catching up to Pecco Bagnaia, who finished in third place, but didn't have enough time.
Marquez describes his competition with Espargaro
In an interview with TNT Sports, Marquez said, "To be honest, we put in a lot of effort this weekend with the team, and they performed exceptionally well."
“We began with our usual setup, but for some reason—which we need to figure out—we ended up being much slower at this track.”
"Gradually, I began to improve. They provided exactly what I required and comprehended my needs perfectly."
"This allowed us to be more competitive with the leading racers, particularly during the initial 10 laps of the race."
"When the tires wore down, Bastianini and Jorge Martin maintained impressive speeds. However, Pecco was not far behind."
"I’m pleased with finishing fourth, though it's a bit disappointing that we missed out on another fourth place in the sprint race yesterday. However, we must continue pushing forward."
Marquez was questioned whether his prolonged battle with Espargaro, which he ultimately won, prevented him from contending with the top three podium finishers.
"Right from the start, he realized that there was an issue with the acceleration," he stated.
"We encountered a minor issue, but we've since figured out the cause."
"Indeed, I had difficulties with acceleration and ended up braking too late."
"That's why I passed Espargaro at Turns 3 and 4. In that section, you don't need much acceleration."
“Besides that, finishing in fourth place was a positive outcome.”
Marquez evaluates his mid-season performance
With 10 races completed and 10 still to go, the MotoGP season has reached its midpoint.
Marquez has not yet secured a victory in either a sprint race or a grand prix with his new bike.
He has fallen to fourth place in the rankings, trailing the championship leader Martin by 62 points.
Despite riding last year's Ducati, he consistently remains the quickest and frequently competes alongside the factory team's bike.
Marquez evaluated his performance over the past half-season, saying, "It wasn't too bad. I did make a few errors."
“There are some issues that come with having a new bike, and there are others that could have been prevented, like what happened yesterday. But we are only human.
"I'm having a great time with this bike. We're consistently finishing in the top five."
“We consistently rank highest among the GP23 bikes, and we're approaching the performance of the ‘24 models. We'll see if we can maintain this progress.”
