Marc Marquez: Embracing the Journey to Victory After 1,000 Days Without a Win
Marc Marquez: 1,000-Day Wait for MotoGP Victory ‘Irrelevant’
Marc Marquez: “The win – whether it’s this year or next, it will come.”
It has been more than 1,000 days and nearly three years since Marc Marquez last claimed victory in a MotoGP race, which occurred at the Emilia Romagna (Misano) event in 2021.
Marquez has been eagerly anticipating his 60th MotoGP win, a significant achievement that remains elusive in his comeback season with Gresini Ducati. This season has seen him secure three second-place finishes, with two of those races ending with a margin of less than half a second.
On Sunday in Austria, another opportunity was missed, a weekend that Marquez described as "one of the best".
The eight-time world champion secured a spot on the front row during qualifications but had to begin the race without his front ride-height device activated. He then collided with Franco Morbidelli at the first turn and ultimately managed to finish in fourth place.
However, with a secured factory Ducati deal for the 2025 and 2026 seasons, Marquez emphasizes that this year is focused on 'development' and assures that 'success will come' in the following year.
“It doesn’t concern me,” Marquez commented about his current lack of victories. “I understand that this year is a time for development, and I am making progress.”
"I aimed to progress gradually. It's true that we began the season very well, then it seemed like we regressed, but now it appears we're back on track."
"In the latter half of the season, our goal is to continue making progress and aim for podium finishes."
"And if the triumph doesn’t come this year, it will come next year.”
Since his 2013 MotoGP debut with Repsol Honda, Marquez consistently achieved an average of eight victories per season until he sustained an arm fracture at Jerez in 2020.
During the 2021 season, he secured his last three victories riding an RC213V at the Sachsenring, Circuit of the Americas, and Misano.
Marquez is presently in fourth place in the world championship standings, outperforming the next highest-ranked GP23 rider by five positions.
