Marc Marquez Dominates Aragon MotoGP Friday Sessions with New Lap Record: Aims High for Weekend Ahead
Marc Marquez celebrates an ideal start at the Aragon MotoGP
"However, it's just the start of the weekend, so we must continue pushing forward."
Marc Marquez had his most successful Friday of the 2024 season at the Aragon MotoGP, leading the pack in both sessions and breaking the lap record later in the day.
Heading into the weekend, Marquez mentioned in Germany that an ideal weekend would enable him to compete against Francesco Bagnaia and Jorge Martin.
"Friday turned out to be ideal," Marquez confessed to MotoGP.com following the Friday Practice session, "and the conditions suited my riding technique perfectly, particularly since the track was somewhat slippery, which seemed to challenge the other riders a bit more than it did me.
"Indeed, we were the quickest competitor on the track, but it's merely Friday, so we must continue to persevere and strive."
Marquez is cognizant of the recent patterns in races, noticing that Martin and Bagnaia, in particular, have shown significant improvement from the morning sessions to the afternoon, establishing themselves as the quickest competitors.
"Marquez mentioned that he's aware Bagnaia and Martin will catch up by tomorrow since they've shown significant improvement earlier today. However, he emphasized that their strategy would be to concentrate on their own performance."
Marquez's performance in Aragon is an extension of the positive sensation he experienced with the motorcycle in Austria.
"The weekend in Austria was fantastic for me, especially in how I felt riding the bike," he mentioned. "This weekend, we're kicking off again with a phenomenal sensation, and I'm really having a good time. The issue is that it's just Friday, so we have to maintain our momentum.
"An essential qualifying session is set for tomorrow, marking the highlight of the weekend. It's always the most critical practice, and securing a spot on the front row opens up all possibilities."
Marquez highlighted that the development of the track due to MotorLand's recent resurfacing will be a crucial aspect of the weekend's events.
"He mentioned that grasping the track conditions will be crucial over the weekend."
"Every session brings improvement. In the morning, our approach was quite different, but by the afternoon, we began to adjust our setup and, notably, our riding technique. This adjustment is proving to be the key factor."
