Marc Marquez Dominates Aragon MotoGP Friday: ‘Perfect Conditions, But It’s Only the Beginning
Marc Marquez praises "ideal Friday" at Aragon MotoGP
"The issue is that it's just Friday, so we have to continue pushing forward."
Marc Marquez had his most successful Friday of 2024 at the Aragon MotoGP, leading both practice sessions and breaking the lap record in the afternoon.
Heading into the weekend, just as he mentioned in Germany, Marquez believed that an ideal weekend would enable him to compete with riders like Francesco Bagnaia and Jorge Martin.
Marquez described Friday as flawless in an interview with MotoGP.com after the practice sessions. He mentioned that the conditions were ideal for his riding style, particularly due to the slightly slippery track, which seemed to pose more challenges for the other riders compared to him.
"We were indeed the quickest on the track, but it's just Friday, so we have to continue and maintain our efforts."
Marquez has noticed the patterns in recent races, where Martin and Bagnaia have emerged as the quickest riders, showing significant improvements from morning to afternoon sessions.
Marquez mentioned that Pecco Bagnaia and Jorge Martin are expected to show up tomorrow, given their speed and the significant progress they made this afternoon. He added that their focus will be on themselves and maintaining concentration.
According to Marquez, his performance in Aragon builds on the positive experience he had with the bike in Austria.
"It was a fantastic weekend for me in Austria, especially with how I felt on the bike," he mentioned. "This weekend, I've had another great start and I'm really having a good time. However, it's just Friday, so we need to maintain this momentum."
"Tomorrow's qualifying session is crucial and will set the tone for the weekend. As usual, it's the most critical practice. Starting from the front row would open up many possibilities for us."
In addition to the qualifying sessions, Marquez highlighted that the development of the track's new surface at MotorLand will be an important aspect of the weekend.
He stated that grasping the track conditions would be crucial over the weekend.
"The situation is getting better with each attempt. This morning, our approach was one way, but by this afternoon, we began adjusting the setup and especially altering the riding technique. This adjustment will be the key factor moving forward."
