**Marc Marquez Conquers Aragon: Ending a Three-Year Victory Drought with a “Perfect” Weekend**
Marc Marquez admitted to setting high expectations for himself to achieve a flawless performance at the Aragon MotoGP. He confessed that the pressure took away the enjoyment during the Sprint, as he was fully aware of the day's significance.
Marc Marquez broke his nearly three-year spell without a win by triumphing at the Aragon MotoGP last weekend, an achievement he called "perfect."
Marquez led all three practice sessions, secured pole position with a margin of 0.8 seconds, triumphed decisively in the Sprint, and finished the Grand Prix on Sunday five seconds ahead of Jorge Martin.
The only session not led by Marquez was the Warm Up, which remained damp following rain from Saturday night into Sunday morning, as he did not record a lap time.
"It was an ideal weekend," Marquez mentioned during the press conference after the race. "We were ahead in all the sessions, except for the Warm Up where, to be honest, I chose with my team to remain in the garage."
Marquez discussed the emotional tension that had accumulated over nearly three years without a win, and the sense of relief he experienced when he crossed the finish line to secure his 60th top-tier victory.
"In the competition, we felt incredible right from the start," he stated. "The race was extremely long, making it challenging to keep emotions in check during the final laps. However, crossing the finish line felt like shedding 3–4kg."
"With each step, the weight on my back grew heavier, making this victory all the more extraordinary. As soon as I won, my thoughts turned to the entire journey we had taken, the people who supported me, my family, my girlfriend, and my brother, Alex Marquez."
"They provided significant assistance, and the Gresini team, in particular, offered me a chance. As a newcomer, I aimed to deliver my best effort, and we succeeded. We've set a new goal and will continue to strive forward."
Marquez gained a significant lead during the race, allowing him to ponder over various thoughts in the closing laps.
"In the final three laps, I was already thinking about the podium," he remarked. "Beyond just the podium, the Gresini garage is always lively and cheerful; it constantly feels like a celebration there."
"Additionally, the most important factor was the support from those around me. During extremely challenging times, having a compassionate and empathetic team, who were even more affected than I was, truly made a significant difference."
"The celebration felt unusual since the adrenaline was higher in other races where I finished in second or third place. Today was more about feeling emotional rather than experiencing a rush of adrenaline."
After leading in almost every session except for the rainy Sunday morning Warm Up, Marquez confessed to feeling some pressure to finish his weekend with a win in the Grand Prix.
"I felt a lot of pressure today," he mentioned. "You could see during the Sprint yesterday that I wasn't having fun because I understood that today was crucial and I had a significant chance ahead of me."
"So, because of that, I aimed to stay concentrated. When you have the speed, it seems like you can handle things, you stay steady, and you appear clever; but you're still the same person. Without the speed, however, it becomes extremely challenging to manage the situation."
"Let’s aim to improve our speed in the upcoming races and compete closely with the leading contenders."
After securing a win, Marquez regards it as significant as his victory at the 2021 German Grand Prix, which marked his return to triumph following an arm injury at the 2020 Spanish Grand Prix.
Marquez stated, "I rank it on the same level as the 2021 event in Germany."
"When facing numerous injuries and challenging times, the significance of each win changes."
While it's accurate that I achieved 60 wins, the two recent victories, along with my inaugural MotoGP win, stand out as the most significant. They instill a unique sense of confidence and provide an extra boost of self-assurance.
"I hadn't felt well for quite a while, and the laps this weekend were brief. I was simply riding, it felt effortless, I was in the zone but I was also very focused on avoiding any errors."
Despite it being his 12th race weekend with the Gresini Ducati team, Marquez revealed that he had believed in the possibility of winning ever since he first rode the Desmosedici during the Valencia test at the end of 2023.
During the Valencia test, Marquez recognized that a race victory was on the horizon. He noted that they would have their chances. However, he added that competing for the championship is a different matter and requires continued effort.
“However, during my time in Valencia, I began to realize that it would eventually come.”
