Marc Marquez Challenges Stewards’ Decision on Controversial Misano Pass in MotoGP Showdown
Marc Marquez Disagrees With Officials' Decision on Bastianini/Martin Incident
The eight-time world champ supports Martin in the final lap controversy at Misano
Marc Marquez has expressed his disagreement with the MotoGP officials' choice to overlook penalizing Enea Bastianini for his contentious maneuver on Jorge Martin during the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix.
Throughout the majority of Sunday's 27-lap race at Misano, championship frontrunner Martin remained in the lead, effectively holding off the aggressive pursuit by Bastianini.
In the last lap, Bastianini aggressively maneuvered his factory Ducati to overtake Martin on the inside at Turn 4, resulting in the two colliding.
Martin was pushed significantly off course, while Bastianini also went past the edge of the track as he took the lead.
Bastianini secured the victory with a five-second lead, as the officials decided against penalizing the Italian, thus confirming the outcome.
Marquez, who secured a third-place finish following Francesco Bagnaia's crash on the 21st lap, acknowledges that Bastianini's victory is a setback for him, as it propels the Italian one point ahead of him in the championship standings.
However, he disagrees with the officials' ruling and thinks that since Bastianini also left the track, Martin deserved to have his position reinstated.
"Marquez mentioned viewing a playback."
"Enea also left the track, which, from my perspective, is unfavorable for the championship when considering our objectives."
“For me, if Enea also left the track, then he should lose one position.
"Executing a bold maneuver to pass someone while remaining on the track is generally acceptable."
"However, leaving the track implies that you ought to lose a spot. I don't support the decision [to not pursue an investigation by the stewards].
"However, once again, it's not beneficial for our stake in the championship. Yet, that's the situation."
Martin voiced his displeasure regarding the situation, stating he "should have" won and that there was "no space" for Bastianini to execute such a maneuver.
He is currently at the forefront of the championship standings with a 24-point advantage following Bagnaia's exit due to a crash. Meanwhile, Gresini team's Marquez finds himself 60 points behind in fourth place, having faced difficulties in keeping up with the speed of the GP24s during the Emilia Romagna race weekend.
