**Luca Marini’s Struggles and Optimism: Post-Race Penalty at British MotoGP and Honda’s Gradual Improvements**
Luca Marini loses crucial point after receiving a penalty for tyre pressure post-race.
Luca Marini, currently 23rd in the MotoGP rankings, expresses that Honda has shown 'improvement'.
Luca Marini failed to earn any points at the British MotoGP because he was penalized for tyre pressure after the race.
The Repsol Honda motorcyclist finished the race in 15th place, which was sufficient to earn him just his second point of the season.
However, he was relegated to 17th place and received no points because he did not comply with the minimum tyre pressure requirements.
Joan Mir, who is on the same team, did not complete the race at Silverstone. Johann Zarco from LCR Honda secured the 14th position, and Takaaki Nakagami ended up in 15th place.
Prior to receiving his penalty, Marini spoke to various media outlets, including Crash.net, about the challenges his Honda was experiencing: "The main issue lies in the initial laps."
"During the initial lap, we established a lead of approximately half a second per lap from a competitive group."
“At the start, we count the seconds. It’s crucial to figure out how to get the rear tire performing right from the beginning of the race.”
"Initially, I found myself alone with no one ahead of me."
“It was unusual since I faced significant issues with vibrations during this race. In this extended event, the problem was far more severe than it had been the day before.
"I had to reduce my speed because I nearly lost control at every turn. There were significant vibrations – we need to look into this issue."
"There are instances when this issue arises with our bike, and it has affected other Honda riders as well."
“It’s crucial to learn how to prevent this.”
Nevertheless, Marini thinks that Honda is coming up with answers to their enduring issues.
He stated, "During qualifying, we can achieve a strong lap time using soft tires. However, we face difficulties with the hard compound."
"I would have preferred using a hard front tire and a soft rear tire for the race. However, noticing that everyone else was opting for medium tires both front and rear, I decided to do the same. This way, I can compare my performance with others and provide consistent feedback to the manufacturer."
Marini's engine specifications are different from those used by other Honda riders.
"Mir, we share the same ones. Zarco, ours are different," he clarified.
"Zarco’s bike has a stronger engine, delivering greater horsepower and higher straight-line speed. However, it is challenging to handle, and I am not fond of it."
"In my opinion, this is not the correct approach for the future development of the bike."
"With my current engine, we consistently lose two-tenths of a second on the straights, but this is the path forward. It’s the method through which we’ll achieve greater performance."
Marini has managed to earn just one point throughout the whole season, spanning 10 races. He is firmly placed at the very bottom of the rankings, sitting in 23rd position, even trailing behind Dani Pedrosa who only participated in one race as a wildcard entry.
However, Marini has identified some advantages.
"We've made significant progress, even though the outcomes might appear unchanged," he commented.
"However, riding the bike is a significant milestone. The experience has gotten better."
"The issue lies in the fact that everyone has advanced. There's a significant amount of effort being exerted by all."
