Luca Marini Eyes Major Progress in Austria Amid Promising Bike Developments
Luca Marini optimistic about "further improvement" in Austria
Luca Marini: 'Our performance in Silverstone demonstrated the advancements we've achieved with the motorcycle; things are increasingly falling into place'
Luca Marini is optimistic about making further progress with his Repsol Honda in this weekend's Austrian MotoGP.
In his first race on the RC213V in Qatar, the Italian was just 20 seconds and 42 seconds behind. Since then, he has gradually and steadily improved his position from the back of the rankings in recent events.
Due to penalties related to tyre pressure, Marini was able to secure a point in Germany, benefiting from a 25-second penalty imposed on another rider. He seemed poised to achieve a similar 15th place finish at Silverstone, but he was hit with his own tyre pressure penalty after the race.
However, Marini believes that things are progressively improving.
Marini mentioned that Silverstone highlighted the advancements they've achieved with the motorcycle, noting that everything is increasingly falling into place, allowing him to enhance his performance and make strides over the course of the weekend.
"The outcomes are obviously not ideal, but we're making progress and putting in the effort. I believe that in Austria, we can advance further on a track that's quite unique compared to the others. It heavily emphasizes braking and acceleration, so we will need to concentrate significantly on these aspects."
Honda Racing Corporation (HRC) is expected to offer its riders upgrades, such as a reconfigured engine, this coming weekend.
The engine is expected to enhance straight-line speed, an area that team-mate Joan Mir noted had declined with the current engine setup introduced in Barcelona.
Mir expressed his anticipation about enhancing their performance in Austria after a series of weekends where they were unable to fully realize their potential.
"Spielberg is a unique track, and I generally excel at heavy braking there. I'm optimistic that we can discover a way to improve our corner exits to keep up with the competition."
"We're heading into a crucial time to prepare for the season's conclusion."
Mir achieved his first grand prix win as a Moto3 rider at the Red Bull Ring in 2026. He later secured his first MotoGP podium at the same venue in 2020, the year he won the championship with Suzuki.
