Luca Marini Eyes Breakthrough in Austria: Repsol Honda’s Rising Star on the Verge of a Milestone Amidst Season of Growth
Luca Marini Optimistic About Further Improvement in Austria
Luca Marini: 'Our performance in Silverstone highlighted our ongoing advancements with the motorcycle, indicating that our efforts are increasingly falling into place.'
Luca Marini is optimistic about making further progress with his Repsol Honda in the upcoming MotoGP race in Austria this weekend.
In his first outing on the RC213V in Qatar, the Italian rider finished just 20 minutes and 42 seconds off the pace, but has gradually climbed up from the bottom of the leaderboard in subsequent races.
Penalties for tyre pressure adjustments propelled Marini to a position in Germany (+25s), and it seemed he was on track to mirror that 15th place finish at Silverstone, until he received a penalty for tyre pressure issues after the race.
However, Marini believes that 'everything is increasingly falling into place.'
"Marini expressed that the improvements on the bike were evident at Silverstone, noting that things are increasingly falling into place and he is making strides in performance throughout the weekend."
"Obviously, the outcomes haven't met our expectations, but we're making progress and putting in the effort. I believe that in Austria, we'll have the opportunity to advance further on a circuit that stands out from the others. It primarily involves braking and acceleration, so we'll need to concentrate significantly on these aspects."
This weekend, HRC is expected to equip its riders with several updates, notably a new engine setup.
The new engine is expected to enhance the bike's acceleration and speed, an improvement that team-mate Joan Mir noticed was lacking in the current engine model, which was first used in Barcelona.
"Mir is eager to see what enhancements can be made in Austria following a series of weekends where they fell short of fully capitalizing on their potential."
"Spielberg stands out as a unique track, and typically, my strength lies in executing strong braking maneuvers. We're hopeful to uncover a strategy that enhances our performance during corner exits so we can keep pace with the competition."
"The upcoming time is crucial for focusing on tasks as the season concludes."
Mir secured his inaugural grand prix win as a Moto3 competitor at the Red Bull Ring in 2026, followed by his initial MotoGP podium finish at the same circuit in 2020, the year he clinched the championship with Suzuki.
