Lando Norris Snatches Singapore Pole from Max Verstappen in Thrilling Qualifying Session
Lando Norris secures pole position in Singapore, outpacing Max Verstappen
Lando Norris and Max Verstappen, both competing for the F1 championship, will start side by side at the front of the grid in Singapore.
Lando Norris secured the top spot in qualifying for the Singapore Grand Prix, edging out his F1 championship contender Max Verstappen.
The McLaren racer looked set to take pole position, having led two out of three practice sessions. He confirmed his dominance with an impressive lap, outpacing the championship frontrunner Verstappen by 0.203 seconds.
Lewis Hamilton delivered an outstanding performance, securing the third position for his Mercedes with a time just 0.316 seconds slower than the pole position. His teammate, George Russell, followed closely in fourth place.
Oscar Piastri, who won the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, finished in fifth place, trailing his McLaren teammate by more than four-tenths of a second.
Fernando Alonso, racing for Aston Martin, secured a seventh-place finish, while Yuki Tsunoda, driving for RB, came in behind him.
In the meantime, Ferrari had a terrible qualifying session. Charles Leclerc's lap time was erased, resulting in him finishing in ninth place. On the other hand, his teammate Carlos Sainz triggered a red flag after crashing hard at the last corner due to a significant loss of control.
The Spanish driver is expected to begin the race from 10th place at best, provided he doesn't incur any penalties for having to replace his engine, which bore the majority of the damage when he collided with the barriers.
Alex Albon and Franco Colapinto from the Williams team just missed making it into the top 10, finishing in 11th and 12th place respectively.
In the meantime, Sergio Perez faced a surprising setback, clocking a time that landed him in 13th place, resulting in his elimination during the second round of qualifying.
Kevin Magnussen of Haas, making his return, and Esteban Ocon from Alpine did not manage to make it to Q3 and will start from 14th and 15th positions respectively.
In what might be his last appearance in Formula 1, Daniel Ricciardo faced disappointment as he was knocked out in the first qualifying session, finishing 16th, despite Red Bull's strong beginning to the weekend.
Aston Martin's Lance Stroll finished in 17th place, just ahead of Alpine's Pierre Gasly and the Sauber duo of Valtteri Bottas and Zhou Guanyu.
