KTM’s Strategic Shuffle: Expanding Factory Support to Revamp the 2025 MotoGP Rider Landscape
Fascinating speculation suggests KTM has the flexibility to move riders "at their discretion"
The rider scene in 2025 might present KTM with a unique chance for strategic placements
Speculation is circulating that the revamped Tech3 team under KTM could provide the opportunity to freely transfer riders among different teams.
Brad Binder, holding a Factory Red Bull KTM contract, alongside Pedro Acosta, set to take over Jack Miller's spot, will make up the KTM factory team for the 2025 season.
However, the new duo of Enea Bastianini and Maverick Vinales will join the Tech3 team, assured of receiving the same equipment and backing, essentially providing the manufacturer with four factory riders.
Commentator Simon Crafar speculated, "It's been mentioned that the other team will be KTM, indicating that Herve's section will receive factory support.
"They won't significantly increase, yet their support will enhance."
"In terms of equipment, they're well-equipped this season. Pedro is fully stocked, and Augusto Fernandez also has nearly all he needs. However, that's not the main point."
"It relates to the staff members and the internal operations of the team."
"It's quite ingenious – agreements specifying 'KTM factory garage' can now apply to any garage…
"Alternatively, consider this: two bicycles have become the desire of many, and now they've expanded it to four."
"Many racers might be drawn to KTM's official team garage, though not as much to its affiliated team. By enhancing its appeal, they could secure four talented riders and position them as they see fit."
Bob Moore, Binder's manager, informed Crash.net earlier that Brad is under contract with Factory Red Bull KTM.
Prior to solidifying their 2025 MotoGP team, KTM's motorsport chief, Pit Beirer, mentioned, "Within our organization, we view the initiative as having four MotoGP slots available."
"We essentially focus on the four locations and aim to optimize them as much as possible."
Binder has a contract with the manufacturer that lasts until the end of 2026.
The 2025 roster intriguingly includes ex-riders from Suzuki, Yamaha, and Aprilia (Vinales), along with Ducati (Bastianini), in addition to KTM veteran Binder and the present newcomer, Acosta.
This implies they will possess a wide-ranging understanding of the various motorcycles in MotoGP.
Crafar recommended, "To obtain the necessary information, the final step involves bringing along a crew chief who has experience working with the rider."
"The crew chief acts as an intermediary, ensuring the rider's intentions are clearly understood without any miscommunication."
Binder mentioned, "What I find particularly fascinating is that they've selected one rider each from Ducati and Aprilia."
"It provides us with a much better understanding of our bike's strengths and areas that require enhancement."
"Only Pedro and I have experienced riding a KTM. For those who have tried bikes from various brands, they come in with a broader perspective and clearer benchmarks."
