KTM Remains Optimistic Despite Uneven Start to 2024 MotoGP Season
KTM declines to blame their riders following an "unusually odd start to the season"
Despite acknowledging that "the pace exists," KTM has opted not to single out their riders for criticism.
Francesco Guidotti is of the opinion that KTM's performance capabilities have exceeded the outcomes displayed in the 2024 MotoGP season.
Kicking off the season with a remarkable two-podium finish in Qatar, thanks to Brad Binder, KTM has faced challenges since then, with the exception of standout newcomer Pedro Acosta.
Since then, Binder hasn't achieved a podium finish, and Jack Miller has also failed to secure a podium position this season.
Guidotti remarked, "We kicked off the season strongly. We began well and experienced a relatively smooth winter test, you could say."
"The journey has been quite inconsistent, with numerous setbacks following the initial stage, and I believe we didn't achieve what we rightfully should have, given our pace."
"Over the past two or three competitions, we've experienced a slight deficiency in pace and intuition. The start of this season has been quite peculiar, characterized by its lack of consistency."
Guidotti elaborated on Binder's season, saying, "The pace was consistently present, yet there were times we didn't seize the opportunity. This was due to a mix of factors; including accidents and our inability to deliver at key times.
"The pace was evident, yet we failed to capture his true potential."
Regarding Miller's departure from the Austrian team at the season's close, Guidotti refrained from attributing the performance shortfall to the Australian.
"The factory KTM team manager noted that while his performance at the front, where he was notably impressive last season, had dipped, it wouldn't be accurate to say that he completely faltered."
"Our triumphs and setbacks are shared. Throughout this season, we lacked the ideal combination that suited his way of riding, and we failed to unite all our elements to display our true capabilities."
Acosta has emerged as KTM's top performer this year, currently holding the sixth position in the rankings, just one spot above Binder.
In conversations about the young Spaniard, Guidotti didn't hesitate to commend the current Moto2 champion.
"With this type of rider, keeping expectations is futile [laughs] as they consistently manage to astonish in one way or another.
"He is greatly appreciated on this project, and he offers us endless support in a unique manner."
