Kemi Badenoch will argue that the Tories cannot regain the British public's trust merely by highlighting Labour's flaws.
During her announcement for the Conservative leadership race on Monday, the ex-Business Secretary will criticize the current administration for not providing "something better."
Yet, even after enumerating various complaints, such as misleading the UK public about the nation's financial status, she will assert that these actions will not secure her party's victory in the upcoming election.
"Ms. Badenoch will state, 'If the Conservatives aspire to regain the trust of the British public, we cannot merely linger on criticizing Labour, enjoyable though it may be.'"
"We must move beyond the repetitive policy debates of the previous legislative session. We were defeated. We do not hold authority."
Labour will falter; and when it does, as the British public seeks a new direction, we must be that alternative.
"We must concentrate on rejuvenation. This includes the rejuvenation of our party, our political approach, and our mindset."

On Monday, coinciding with parliament's reconvening after the summer break, Mr. Cleverly is scheduled to deliver a speech. In it, he will emphasize the need for his party to "return to traditional Conservative principles" and advocate for reducing the size of government.
