Jos Verstappen Excluded from Austrian GP Legends Parade by Christian Horner, Claims Tension
Jos Verstappen alleges that Christian Horner, the principal of the Red Bull F1 team, prevented him from participating in the Legends Parade in Austria.
Jos Verstappen, the father of Max Verstappen, alleges that Christian Horner, the team principal of Red Bull, prevented him from participating in the Legends Parade at the upcoming Formula 1 Austrian Grand Prix this weekend.
Verstappen was set to pilot the Red Bull RB8 – the same vehicle Sebastian Vettel steered to clinch his third global championship in 2012 – this Sunday at the Red Bull Ring.
Gerhard Berger, David Coulthard, Emerson Fittipaldi, and Johnny Herbert are set to participate in a parade that honors "famed Formula 1 drivers and the iconic Formula 1 vehicles victorious in the Austrian Grand Prix over the last five decades."
The procession is scheduled to begin at 12:30 PM on Sunday, before the Austrian Grand Prix happening this year.
"Recently, multiple sources have informed me that Christian Horner has exerted all his efforts to prevent me from racing," Verstappen communicated to the Dutch media outlet De Telegraaf.
"To ensure that no filming would take place at all, I thought to myself, 'If only they would confront me directly.' It doesn't need to go down like this, in my view. I find it extremely disheartening."
De Telegraaf has indicated that the bond between Jos Verstappen and team leader Christian Horner has become less warm.
The duo seemed to engage in an intense dispute within the Bahrain paddock during the first race of the season in March.
Verstappen Sr cautioned that Red Bull could face internal division if Horner remained in his position as team principal, in light of accusations from a woman on the staff.
Horner, consistently refuting the claims against him, was exonerated and has continued in his position.
