Jorge Martin’s Ducati Farewell: Reflecting on Growth and Eyeing a Future Return
Jorge Martin describes leaving Ducati as "regrettable"
Jorge Martin stated, "This might not be my final WDW; I could return someday, but this is the situation for now."
Jorge Martin is set to depart from Ducati after the 2024 MotoGP season and will team up with Marco Bezzecchi at Aprilia.
With only ten points separating him from the series leader as he heads into this weekend's British MotoGP at Silverstone, Martin aims to recover from his error in Germany during the previous race.
Martin had an accident on the second-to-last lap while he was ahead of Francesco Bagnaia.
Martin, along with his current team Pramac, will be departing from Ducati next season and participated in his last World Ducati week at Misano this past weekend.
In an interview with GPOne, Martin suggested that he might participate again in the future, indicating a possible comeback with Ducati later on.
Martin commented that the journey with Ducati and Pramac has been wonderful. He mentioned that although the journey isn't complete, the bike, the team, and he himself have all evolved significantly over the years.
"When I first joined, Ducati wasn't the top motorcycle and hadn't secured a championship title yet. However, with Pecco, Enea, and myself, I believe the project has made significant progress."
"It's unfortunate that I have to leave, but I'm glad I made it. This might not be my final visit to WDW; I could return someday. For now, this is the situation."
Martin finished in ninth place in the Ducati Race of Champions, with MotoGP title contenders Bagnaia securing first place and Marc Marquez coming in third.
Martin, who has yet to secure a victory at Silverstone in MotoGP, faces a challenging weekend ahead.
However, the Spaniard remains optimistic due to his strong performance at Sachsenring, despite the error he made.
Martin mentioned that he felt exceptionally strong, more so than anyone else, even back in Germany when he had already secured a contract with Aprilia and everything was set.
"I made an error, but it's crucial to learn from such experiences. What matters is performing at a high level, and I feel positive now."
"I don’t need to engage in any specific activities; I’m in excellent condition and believe that will be sufficient to complete the races."
"I believe I've progressed significantly since last year concluded, and with effective teamwork, we should be able to remain competitive until the finish."
