**”Jorge Martin Weighs In on Bagnaia-Marquez Collision as Championship Battle Intensifies”**
Jorge Martin has shared his thoughts on the collision between his championship contender Pecco Bagnaia and Alex Marquez during the Aragon MotoGP race.
Jorge Martin's chances of winning the championship improved significantly at the Aragon Grand Prix last weekend, thanks to his remarkable consistency, while Francesco Bagnaia experienced a crash.
Martin came to Aragon with a five-point deficit to Bagnaia in the World Championship standings. This gap existed because the Italian racer had won both the Sprint and the Grand Prix events in Austria.
A disappointing weekend in terms of points for Bagnaia coincided with Martin securing two second-place finishes once again, marking the sixth consecutive race since the summer break in which Martin has ended up in second place.
Bagnaia's eventful weekend culminated in a late-race clash with Alex Marquez. Despite a shaky start, Bagnaia managed to make his way up the field and caught up to Marquez's rear wheel with seven laps remaining.
During lap 18, Marquez veered off at turn 12, and as Bagnaia attempted to capitalize on the opportunity, the two collided and crashed at turn 13.
During the press conference held after the race, Martin shared his perspective on the incident but was noticeably hesitant to strongly support either side.
“It’s hard,” Martin remarked. “You ought to ask Pecco [Bagnaia] and Alex [Marquez].”
"Certainly, it was hard to see, especially with all the dust in that area. I believe Alex couldn't tilt further, similar to what occurred with Joe Roberts in Moto2, who crashed on the final lap while competing with his American Racing teammate, Marcos Ramirez. Ultimately, there was contact."
"Fingers crossed they’re alright, since it looked like they were near the bikes after the crash. I’m hoping they’ll be good to go for the next race."
Following the incident, Bagnaia visited the medical center where scans revealed no fractures. However, the Italian racer did mention experiencing pain in his neck and left shoulder.
The upcoming MotoGP World Championship event, the San Marino Grand Prix, is scheduled for this weekend at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli. In 2023, Bagnaia participated in this race with a leg injury he sustained during a crash at the Catalan Grand Prix. Similarly, this year, he will have only one week to recover after the Aragon race to prepare for Misano.
Despite Bagnaia having secured two victories at Misano in the MotoGP category, it was Martin who emerged victorious in both 2023 races. This year, the Spanish rider heads into his competitor’s home event with a 23-point lead in the championship standings.
