Jorge Martin Reflects on Ducati Departure and Hints at Possible Return: A New Chapter Begins with Aprilia
Jorge Martin describes leaving Ducati as "regrettable"
Jorge Martin: "While this might not be my final appearance at WDW, there's a possibility of returning someday. However, that's the situation at present."
By the conclusion of the 2024 MotoGP campaign, Jorge Martin is set to depart from Ducati, moving to Aprilia to team up with Marco Bezzecchi.
Entering this weekend's British MotoGP at Silverstone, Martin is only ten points behind the series leader and aims to recover from his previous error in Germany.
Martin suffered a crash during the second-to-last lap while ahead of Francesco Bagnaia.
Martin, along with his present team Pramac, is parting ways with Ducati next season. He participated in his last World Ducati Week at Misano the previous weekend.
In a conversation with GPOne, Martin left the door open for future involvement, subtly suggesting a possible comeback to Ducati in the future.
Martin stated, "The journey with Ducati and Pramac has been memorable. We're not quite at the end, but it's been a journey of years, evolving the motorcycle, the team, and I believe we've matured in unison."
Upon my arrival, Ducati wasn't leading the pack and was yet to secure a championship. However, with contributions from Pecco, Enea, and myself, I believe the initiative has significantly advanced.
Regrettably, I have to leave, yet it's a joy to have been present. While this visit to WDW might not be my final one, and there's a chance I'll return someday, this is the current situation.
Martin secured the ninth position in the Ducati Race of Champions, with MotoGP contenders Bagnaia and Marc Marquez taking the first and third spots, respectively.
Martin faces a challenging weekend at Silverstone, a track where he has yet to secure a win in MotoGP.
However, the Spanish rider remains optimistic following his impressive display at Sachsenring, despite the error he made.
"Martin mentioned, 'Honestly, back in Germany, once my Aprilia contract was all set, I felt incredibly strong, stronger than anyone else.'"
"I acknowledged an error, yet it's crucial for me to glean lessons from these errors. The key aspect was maintaining a high standard, and currently, I'm in a positive state."
"There's no specific action required on my part; my excellent physical condition should suffice to complete the races."
"I believe I've progressed significantly since last year ended, and I'm convinced that if we collaborate effectively, we at least have a chance to remain competitive until the final moments."
