Jorge Martin Dominates British MotoGP FP1 with Marquez’s Late Crash Highlighting Intense Session
British MotoGP: Jorge Martin Tops FP1, Marc Marquez Crashes Near the End
Jorge Martin finishes as the quickest rider in the first practice session of the British MotoGP.
Kicking off FP1 with remarkable speed, Maverick Vinales took the lead for Aprilia, closely followed by Aleix Espargaro, with an incredibly narrow margin of just +0.001s between the two Spaniards.
Brad Binder trailed closely behind, a mere seven-tenths of a second separating him from the leaders.
Espargaro was the first to dip below the 2-minute mark, followed by series frontrunner Francesco Bagnaia who moved up to second position.
Marc Marquez was on track for a significant gain but fell behind when he got stuck behind Pedro Acosta.
The Gresini racer managed to improve his best time, climbing to the eighth position as a consequence.
Lap times stayed the same until Jorge Martin moved up to the second quickest position, just 0.030 seconds slower than Espargaro.
In his subsequent circuit, Martin achieved the quickest time, while Marquez also bettered his performance but was unable to advance in the rankings.
Marquez increased his pace, quickly catching up to Martin, who was leading the way for the Pramac team.
Marquez secured the fifth spot in the rankings, trailing behind Martin, Espargaro, Bagnaia, and Vinales.
In the final moments, Pedro Acosta experienced a mishap at turn six. The rider from KTM misjudged his braking, subsequently sliding out and making contact with the air fence at a reduced speed.
Marquez soon followed Acosta in falling, as he lost control and went off the track at turn 15. Quickly, Marquez was back on his feet.
As Marquez fell during the race, trailing Martin, the latter managed to enhance his speed before achieving another record time on his subsequent lap.
Vinales narrowed the gap to just a tenth towards the end, while Espargaro was three tenths behind Martin, securing third place.
