Jorge Martin Dominates British MotoGP FP1 as Marc Marquez Crashes Late
British MotoGP: Jorge Martin sets the pace as Marc Marquez crashes in the final moments of FP1
Jorge Martin tops the timesheet in the first practice session for the British MotoGP.
Starting off FP1 with a bang, Maverick Vinales topped the timesheets for Aprilia, closely followed by Aleix Espargaro, with only a razor-thin margin of 0.001 seconds between the two Spanish riders.
Brad Binder trailed behind them by an additional seven-tenths of a second, making him their nearest competitor.
Espargaro was the first competitor to clock a time under 2 minutes, followed by championship leader Francesco Bagnaia moving into the second position.
Making significant progress, Marc Marquez experienced a delay after getting stuck behind Pedro Acosta.
The Gresini rider managed to improve his overall best time, which advanced him to the eighth position.
Lap times stayed the same until Jorge Martin moved up to the second-fastest position, just 0.030 seconds behind Espargaro.
During his following lap, Martin clocked the quickest time, while Marquez also enhanced his performance, although he didn't climb in the rankings.
As Martin led the way, Marquez accelerated, narrowing the gap between himself and the Pramac team rider.
Marquez secured the fifth position in terms of speed, trailing Martin, Espargaro, Bagnaia, and Vinales.
Pedro Acosta experienced a crash at turn six towards the end of the race. The KTM rider misjudged his braking, leading to a gradual fall after hitting the air barrier.
Marquez subsequently crashed at turn 15, joining Acosta. Marquez quickly stood up after the fall.
As Marquez fell while trailing Martin, Martin went on to enhance his time before recording another fastest lap on his subsequent circuit.
Towards the end, Vinales reduced his gap to a tenth of a second, while Espargaro was three tenths behind Martin, who was in third place.
