Jorge Martin Claims Deserved Victory After Controversial Misano Finish, Sets Sights on Championship Triumph
Jorge Martin: Enea Bastianini "lacked space"; "won't face repercussions" in future instances
Front-runner in the championship shares perspective on the contentious conclusion at Misano
Jorge Martin believes he was the rightful winner of the MotoGP Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, arguing that Enea Bastianini should not have attempted his contentious overtake on the final lap due to lack of space.
Throughout the majority of Sunday's 27-lap Grand Prix at Misano, Martin was in the lead, but faced significant late challenges from his fellow Ducati rider Bastianini.
Bastianini executed a bold maneuver on the inside of Martin at Turn 4 during the final lap, resulting in a collision that sent Martin significantly off the track.
Martin trailed Bastianini by five seconds when they reached the finish line, clearly showing his annoyance while on his motorcycle as he completed the race.
The officials decided against launching an inquiry into the decision.
"Definitely, I believe it was an excellent weekend," Martin started.
"I emerged as the most competitive, proving to be the strongest contender on the track in Misano during the second round."
"After numerous circuits, I managed to advance from the previous weekend and achieve remarkable speed."
"However, handling the Enea scenario was my responsibility, and I believe there was no opportunity to take that action."
Continuing the discussion seems futile as it will not alter the situation.
"Without a doubt, I believe I earned that win. If he was going to make a move, he should have at least done it cleanly and avoided making contact with me."
The Pramac competitor is convinced that a standard has been established regarding the guidelines for interaction: "Definitely, now it seems we have a better understanding of what the race officials envision moving forward. Therefore, if a similar situation arises in the future, I anticipate there won't be any repercussions… at least, that's my hope."
Martin has taken the championship lead, ahead by 24 points, following Francesco Bagnaia's fall from third place during the final moments of the race.
He is now confident that, without any errors, he stands in the prime spot to clinch the championship in the remaining five rounds.
"He added that he would aim to concentrate on the positive aspects."
"The speed was incredibly fast and quite impressive. The beginning went well. My performance in qualifying saw improvement. There was a slight uncertainty following the previous race."
"I'm pleased with how things went. I have a strong affinity for Indonesia and genuinely enjoy the track and visiting the place."
"I'll aim to concentrate on my biking. As usual, there's plenty of external distraction."
"Once more, I find myself with a slight edge. It's time to concentrate on enhancing this advantage as I sense I'm slightly ahead and believe that without errors, I can win this race."
