Joan Mir Secures Future with Repsol Honda Through 2025-2026, Aiming for MotoGP Redemption
Announcement: Joan Mir Confirmed to Continue with Honda
Joan Mir extends his tenure with Repsol Honda through 2025 and 2026
Joan Mir has inked a fresh agreement with Honda.
He has pledged his allegiance to the Repsol Honda MotoGP squad for the upcoming two seasons.
Mir clinched the 2020 MotoGP title riding for Suzuki, but has faced challenging times after moving to Honda, given their recent struggles.
He served as Marc Marquez's last team partner before Marquez retired the previous year. Mir's debut season was marred by numerous accidents.
This season, the highest position Mir has achieved in a grand prix is 12th place.
However, Honda continues to be a dominant force in MotoGP and plans to leverage the updated concessions regulations to fight their way back to the peak.
Mir and Luca Marini will continue as the official team pairing for the upcoming season.
"To start, I'm truly excited to have the opportunity to collaborate with Honda and HRC over the coming two years," Mir expressed.
My objective was to maintain our collaboration, and I'm pleased to say that I've successfully done so this time.
Since 2023, I've been collaborating with HRC, and as our partnership persists, I'm convinced that by consistently sharing my insights with HRC, I can play a role in enhancing the RC213V.
"I'm aware of my responsibilities and the potential Honda has, so I'm optimistic that together we can accomplish our goals. We're committed to putting in the effort for the rest of this season to build a better future."
Koji Watanabe, the head of Honda Racing Corporation, expressed his delight at having Joan Mir join the MotoGP team for a two-year stint starting in 2025.
Honda and HRC have faced an unprecedentedly challenging season, unlike anything in their history.
Despite the current challenges, Mir's faith in the team has not wavered, and we deeply appreciate his relentless determination and resilience. Together with Mir, we aim to collaborate with all involved parties to stage a recovery and strive to fulfill our supporters' hopes at the earliest opportunity.
"We'd like to express our gratitude to all our loyal fans for their unwavering support. We eagerly anticipate your ongoing encouragement."
