Joan Mir and Team Honda Gear Up for Aragon Grand Prix: A Look at HRC’s Intensive Preparations and Future Plans
Joan Mir praises the active interval between the MotoGP races in Austria and Aragon for HRC, stating, "The whole team has been focused on what's ahead."
Well into his sophomore year with Honda's MotoGP team, Joan Mir remains focused on what lies ahead.
After achieving a season-best ninth-place finish in the Spanish Sprint, 2020 World Champion Mir reveals that HRC has been actively working in the week and a half following the Austrian Grand Prix, where the top-performing Honda was LCR's Takaaki Nakagami, finishing in 14th place.
"Following the race in Austria, we've had a lot on our plate," Mir commented as the Aragon Grand Prix approaches. "However, having a lot to do is positive since it means all team members are focused on what's ahead."
"I'm excited about making my way back to Aragon; the previous occasion I competed there, I secured a podium finish in 2021.
"For this weekend's strategy, we plan to follow the same method as in previous races, focusing on our necessary improvements and awaiting the outcomes once the races start on Saturday and Sunday."
Luca Marini, who is part of the Repsol Honda team alongside Mir, experienced his initial withdrawal from a race as an HRC competitor during the previous event in Austria. Throughout his MotoGP career, the Italian has competed thrice at MotorLand, securing his highest position of seventh in 2022. Additionally, in the Moto2 category, he achieved a fourth-place finish in 2019.
In this year's competition, Marini is concentrating on how he measures up against his fellow Honda competitors, and believes that MotoGP's one-year break from the freshly repaved Aragon track won't significantly affect things.
"Marini expressed anticipation for the upcoming race following the unfortunate conclusion in Austria," he stated. "As we enter the weekend, I'm confident we can demonstrate our capabilities relative to other Honda competitors and continue to progress."
"Returning to Aragon this year after skipping it last year, I don't anticipate many changes."
