Joan Mir and HRC Gear Up for Aragon GP After Intense Development Break
Joan Mir praises the "hectic" interval between the Austrian and Aragon MotoGP races for HRC
"All team members have been focused on planning ahead."
Well into his second year riding for Honda's factory MotoGP team, Joan Mir remains focused on what lies ahead.
After achieving a top finish of ninth place this season, specifically in the Spanish Sprint, 2020 World Champion Mir mentioned that HRC has been "occupied" during the ten days following the Austrian Grand Prix, where the highest-placed Honda rider was LCR's Takaaki Nakagami, who finished 14th.
“We’ve had a hectic schedule following the race in Austria,” Mir commented in anticipation of the Aragon Grand Prix. “However, being busy is positive as it means everyone on the team is focusing on future developments.”
“I’m excited to go back to Aragon; the last time I competed there in 2021, I finished on the podium.”
"We plan to follow the same strategy this weekend as we have in previous races, focusing on our key areas and assessing our potential once the competition begins on Saturday and Sunday."
Luca Marini, who rides for Repsol Honda alongside Mir, experienced his first race retirement as an HRC rider during the recent event in Austria. The Italian racer has competed at MotorLand three times in MotoGP, with his highest placement being seventh in 2022. In the Moto2 category, he achieved a fourth-place finish in 2019.
In this year's event, Marini is concentrating on how he performs compared to other Honda riders and believes that MotoGP's year-long break from the newly resurfaced Aragon track won't significantly affect the outcome.
Marini expressed his anticipation for the upcoming race following the unsatisfactory conclusion in Austria. He mentioned that he is confident about their ability to demonstrate their performance against the other Honda riders and continue making progress as they head into the weekend.
"We're returning to Aragon this year after skipping it last year, but I don't believe this will make a significant difference."
