Japanese Moto2 Sensation Ai Ogura Secures MotoGP Seat with Trackhouse Aprilia for 2025 Season
Ai Ogura Secures MotoGP Contract with Trackhouse
Trackhouse Aprilia has announced that Ai Ogura will join their MotoGP team next season, with the team set to use factory bikes from 2025.
Ai Ogura, a prominent Moto2 rider, has been officially announced to join MotoGP next season with Trackhouse Aprilia.
The 23-year-old Japanese rider is presently ranked second in the Moto2 championship, trailing his MT Helmets – MSi (Boscoscuro) teammate Sergio Garcia.
Throughout his career, Ogura has frequently been associated with Takaaki Nakagami's Idemitsu-sponsored LCR Honda team. However, during the summer hiatus, he emerged as a potential candidate for a position with Aprilia.
This also involved fending off challenges from American standout and fellow Moto2 victor Joe Roberts.
Ogura, who has agreed to a two-year contract, will team up with current Trackhouse rider Raul Fernandez next year. Meanwhile, Miguel Oliveira is anticipated to switch to the new Pramac Yamaha project.
Ogura and Fernandez are set to race on "current factory specification Trackhouse Aprilia RS-GP bikes." The team clarified to Crash.net that these are "2025 factory bikes."
Ogura expressed his gratitude towards everyone involved in the project and all his supporters, stating, "To begin with, I want to thank all the individuals who contributed to this project and everyone who supported me. Achieving this is truly a dream come true! Reaching MotoGP represents the pinnacle of the sport, so I am incredibly thrilled to have made it to this level."
"I am thrilled to have the opportunity to compete at the highest level and I am eagerly looking forward to racing with the Trackhouse Racing MotoGP Team. The team appears to be highly competitive and the bike is incredibly powerful. As a rider, my responsibility is to make the most of what’s available to me."
"The mindset remains consistent, but I’m thrilled to join Trackhouse and advance to MotoGP with them. I eagerly anticipate the beginning of 2025. For now, my focus is on the Moto2 World Championship."
"I aim to wrap up this year on a high note and be fully ready for 2025. Thank you all and see you next year!"
Ogura will be the third newcomer to Aprilia's squad next season, alongside Jorge Martin and Marco Bezzecchi, who will complete the entirely revamped factory team.
Another Moto2 competitor has also been promoted to MotoGP. Fermin Aldeguer has inked a deal with Ducati and is expected to join the Gresini team.
Somkiat Chantra, who used to race alongside Ogura and is also his friend, might become the third newcomer on the MotoGP lineup next year if he is chosen instead of Nakagami for the LCR team.
