Jake Dixon’s MotoGP Aspirations: Pramac Yamaha Backing and the Battle with Moto2 Rivals
Jake Dixon is being considered for Pramac Yamaha, favored over a Moto2 competitor whose style is less compatible. Experts believe Dixon's riding approach aligns well with Yamaha's requirements.
Jake Dixon's compatibility with the Yamaha has led to speculation from some within the paddock that he could be a fit for the new Pramac initiative.
Dixon achieved an outstanding win on home soil during the Moto2 race at the British Grand Prix last weekend.
However, although he doesn't have a straightforward path to MotoGP, his Moto2 competitor Tony Arbolino is reportedly being considered for a promotion to Pramac Yamaha, as per Sky Italia.
"It could happen," Sylvain Guintoli told TNT Sports.
"He faced challenges at the beginning of the season, but his performance is improving. He isn't the most apparent option."
In my view, Miguel Oliveira is an excellent pick. He's a compelling rider and would be a logical fit for them.
“It’s somewhat unexpected if they choose a less experienced rider.”
“There are other men you might be considering.”
Prior to Dixon's decisive win on home soil, Guintoli remarked, "His way of riding would suit a Yamaha well."
“I recall when Fabio Quartararo advanced to MotoGP. Many believed he hadn’t excelled in Moto2. However, his riding technique…
“Dixon’s way of riding might benefit Yamaha.”
At Silverstone, Dixon discussed his aspirations in MotoGP, stating, "I began my racing career at the age of 14. How many others in the Grand Prix paddock can say they also started at 14?"
"Therefore, it's inevitable that I'll be somewhat older by the time I compete in the Grand Prix."
“I’d love to attend MotoGP, but I believe things happen for a reason. If it's destined for me to go, then I will someday. If not, that's okay too. My main goal is to win a world title. Becoming a world champion has always been my dream, and I’ll keep striving to achieve that.”
Nonetheless, Alonso Lopez is another promising Moto2 rider who has an opportunity to secure the Pramac Yamaha position.
"Who can say," remarked Yamaha's chief Lin Jarvis regarding Lopez in an interview with Sky Italia.
"A few years back, we mentioned that he was a rider we were keen on."
"We are monitoring his progress and will consider advancing him to the top tier when the appropriate moment arrives."
Guintoli commented: “They require a person who has never ridden a MotoGP bike before.”
"That can be beneficial. Take Pedro Acosta this season as an example. He started riding his bike without any prior experience in MotoGP, so that was expected. He was unfamiliar with it, lacking aerodynamics and using a different engine."
“They require someone with those qualities. However, it’s a difficult decision. Someone similar to Lopez…”
