Jack Miller’s MotoGP Future Hangs in the Balance: Pramac and Trackhouse Emerge as Final Options Amidst Tightening Grid
What alternatives does Jack Miller still have in MotoGP?
Jack Miller has only a couple of choices left in MotoGP, but is he going to stay in the competition?
Jack Miller faces the possibility of being replaced as a MotoGP rider, as Honda opts to retain Joan Mir.
Despite not being anticipated as a contender for a factory Honda position, Miller's chances have diminished further due to Mir's recent contract extension with Honda, effectively removing another opportunity for the Australian rider.
Miller is set to depart from KTM when this season concludes and currently has limited choices available.
Pramac Yamaha and Trackhouse Racing remain the sole genuine possibilities for the ex-Honda and Ducati competitor.
Positions remain open at both Gresini and VR46 Ducati teams, yet Fermin Aldeguer is anticipated to fill one of these positions (probably at Gresini) and Franco Morbidelli is projected to join Fabio Di Giannantonio at VR46.
Acquiring Miller would represent a significant acquisition for Pramac, given his unique background of having raced for three diverse manufacturers, a distinction he shares only with Maverick Vinales and Johann Zarco.
Miller has demonstrated his ability to win races with two distinct manufacturers and has a talent for contributing to the development of motorcycles that may not be the quickest.
Pramac stands out as the top pick because they would be acquiring a rider who boasts extensive experience across a variety of motorcycles.
Nonetheless, reports from Sky Italia indicate that Miguel Oliveira is set to join the Yamaha team, leaving only one spot available, with multiple Moto2 competitors also being considered for that position.
Pramac, in collaboration with Ducati, has focused on nurturing young talent, a strategy expected to continue even as they transition to partnering with Yamaha.
With Oliveira poised to join the Italy-based squad, considering an individual such as Sergio Garcia might be suitable to pair a younger talent with an experienced rider.
Trackhouse?
Regarding Trackhouse, it appears to be yet another opportunity that Miller might be losing.
Moving to Trackhouse might be an even better decision for Miller, as he would be getting on the second most competitive bike in the lineup.
Miller has experienced a challenging sophomore year with KTM, showing that the Austrian brand hasn't progressed as expected.
The RS-GP motorcycle is a machine that is easy for riders to handle, meshing seamlessly with Miller's approach to riding.
Given that Raul Fernandez remains on the team, and with strong connections to Ai Ogura, it seems Jack Miller's opportunities could be narrowing.
Potentially Cut from MotoGP?
There's a chance Sergio Garcia and Joe Roberts might ascend to MotoGP by 2025. With LCR Honda showing interest in retaining a Japanese racer, presumably Takaaki Nakagami, Miller might risk losing his spot on the grid completely.
In a recent conversation with Motosan.es, Miller expressed his desire to continue his career in MotoGP, stating, "Absolutely, my goal is to remain. This is where I want to be."
"I can't envision being anywhere other than this place. It seems to me that I continue to improve with each passing day.
"Additionally, I'm just 29 years old. However, the issue is that I entered MotoGP at 19 years of age. Therefore, people have memories of me from many years back, even though I'm aging."
Miller's future in MotoGP is uncertain, with attention focused on Pramac and Trackhouse.
Superbike World Championship?
Should Miller miss out on a MotoGP spot, he might transition to WorldSBK instead.
Alvaro Bautista is keen on remaining with Ducati, and the feeling is mutual. However, there's still a possibility that they might part ways, opening up an opportunity for Miller to take a seat on one of the top-performing motorcycles in the category.
