Jack Miller’s MotoGP Dilemma: Pramac or Trackhouse, or Will He Exit the Grid?
What choices does Jack Miller have left in MotoGP?
Jack Miller still has two possibilities in MotoGP, but the question remains whether he will stay in the competition.
Jack Miller could potentially lose his spot as a MotoGP rider, as Honda has decided to retain Joan Mir.
Despite the fact that Miller was unlikely to contend for a factory Honda spot, the fresh agreement between Mir and Honda eliminates another opportunity for the Australian rider.
Miller, set to depart from KTM after this season, has limited choices left at this point.
The ex-Honda and Ducati racer has just two viable choices remaining: Pramac Yamaha and Trackhouse Racing.
There are still openings at Gresini and VR46 Ducati, but Fermin Aldeguer is anticipated to take one of these positions, probably with Gresini. Meanwhile, Franco Morbidelli is projected to join Fabio Di Giannantonio at VR46.
Pramac?
Adding Miller to the team would be a significant decision since he has experience with three different manufacturers, a distinction shared only by Maverick Vinales and Johann Zarco.
Miller has achieved victories with multiple brands and has demonstrated a talent for improving the performance of bikes that aren't the quickest.
Pramac is the clear option since the team would gain a rider with extensive experience on various motorcycles.
Sky Italia has indicated that Miguel Oliveira is set to join the Yamaha team, leaving just one available position that several Moto2 riders are being considered for.
Pramac, in collaboration with Ducati, has made efforts to support young talent, and this focus is expected to continue even after their partnership with Yamaha begins.
With Oliveira poised to join the Italy-based team, considering someone like Sergio Garcia might be ideal to pair a young rider with an experienced one.
What is the situation with Trackhouse? It appears that this opportunity might also be becoming less attainable for Miller.
Becoming part of Trackhouse might be an even more advantageous decision for Miller, as he would be transitioning to the second-ranked bike on the track.
Miller has faced a challenging sophomore year with KTM, as it is evident that the Austrian company has not progressed as expected.
The RS-GP motorcycle is designed to be easy to handle, making it a good match for Miller's way of riding.
However, with Raul Fernandez remaining in his position and the team being strongly associated with Ai Ogura, Miller's opportunity might be slipping away.
Removed from MotoGP?
Sergio Garcia and Joe Roberts might join the MotoGP lineup in 2025. With LCR Honda interested in having a Japanese rider, probably Takaaki Nakagami, Miller might end up without a spot on the grid.
In a recent conversation with Motosan.es, Miller expressed his strong desire to remain in MotoGP. He stated, "My plan is definitely to stay; I really want to continue being a part of this."
"I can't imagine being anywhere else. I believe I'm still improving as time goes on."
“Additionally, I'm just 29 years old. The issue is that I started in MotoGP at the age of 19. Because of that, people have known me for a long time, but I'm actually getting older."
Miller's future in MotoGP is uncertain, with attention focused on Pramac and Trackhouse.
World Superbike Series?
Should Miller fail to secure a position in MotoGP, he might consider transitioning to the WorldSBK circuit.
Alvaro Bautista is keen to continue with Ducati, and the feeling is mutual. However, there's still a possibility that they might part ways, potentially opening up an opportunity for Miller to ride one of the top-performing bikes in the category.
