Jack Miller’s Misano Woes: ‘I Feel Like I Can’t Push Anymore’ as Binder Battles Tyre Issues in Sprint
Jack Miller expresses his frustration with the KTM at Misano: "I feel like I'm at my limit."
Jack Miller discusses the challenges he faced during the sprint race on Saturday at Misano.
Jack Miller from KTM expressed that he feels unable to exert more effort on the RC16 at Misano. This follows his challenging performance, finishing 15th in the MotoGP Emilia Romagna Grand Prix sprint after securing the 19th spot in qualifying.
On Saturday morning, the Australian had a disappointing performance in the first qualifying session, finishing 19th on the grid. In contrast, his teammate Brad Binder excelled, leading the session and ultimately securing fourth place on his KTM.
Starting from the last row, Miller struggled to advance, ultimately finishing in 15th place and nearly 20 seconds behind the winner.
Miller believes he is "trapped" in terms of speed at Misano, similar to his performance at the San Marino GP, and feels he has hit a "wall" with his riding skills.
“It’s about a tenth slower than my sprint time last week, so it feels like we’re consistently hitting that mark,” he explained.
"I feel like I've hit a limit and can't improve my riding skills or connection with the bike any further. We need to find a way to break through this barrier."
Binder's start was strong, quickly moving him into second position ahead of Francesco Bagnaia, who would later win the race. However, by the conclusion of the first lap, Binder had fallen to fifth place, and he dropped to sixth on the subsequent lap.
By the conclusion of the third lap, Binder was trailing by 2.5 seconds and eventually finished 8.1 seconds behind the leader, securing sixth place.
He attributed his struggle to the difficulty of warming up his medium front tyre promptly, which almost caused him to crash twice during the opening lap.
"My pace was good, and posting a 1:30.6 during Q2 was my fastest lap at this track," Binder stated.
"I botched the sprint since the front tire took too long to reach optimal performance, causing me to nearly crash and veer off at Turn 11."
“I required a couple of laps to find my rhythm, and after that, I was able to ride well.”
"It wasn't as quick as I wanted, but at least I was able to push through. I'm satisfied with the outcome because I initially thought I had messed up the race when we reached Turn 6 for the first time."
"Tomorrow, I must address the issue with the tire, and then everything should be fine."
He mentioned that he felt fortunate to avoid an accident at Turn 6 during the first lap and had another close call at Turn 11 where he nearly lost control again.
"It was incredibly fortunate that I managed to remain on the bike."
KTM's team manager, Francesco Guidotti, described the day as "bittersweet," mentioning that Brad secured first place in the initial qualifying session and fourth place in the second session. He noted that these were some of the team's best results this year, and they had no reason to be dissatisfied.
"He initially performed well but faced difficulties with the front tire's temperature during the early laps, which caused him to lose the opportunity to stay with the front-runners."
"Jack barely missed qualifying for Q2 on Friday by just a few milliseconds. He couldn't put together a good lap today, and starting the Sprint race from the back was challenging. We're aiming to improve tomorrow."
