Jack Miller’s Misano Woes: A Tale of Frustration and Tire Troubles at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix
Jack Miller expresses challenges with Misano KTM: "It feels like pushing further is impossible"
Jack Miller discusses his challenging Saturday sprint at Misano
Jack Miller from KTM expressed his frustration, stating that he feels unable to exert further effort on the RC16 at Misano, following a disappointing finish in 15th place during the MotoGP Emilia Romagna Grand Prix sprint, after starting from the 19th position.
The Australian faced a disappointing start to Saturday's qualifying, finishing 19th on the grid, in stark contrast to his teammate Brad Binder who led the session and secured a fourth-place starting position for his KTM.
Starting from the rear positions, Miller found it challenging to advance, eventually moving up to 15th place, nearly 20 seconds behind the winner.
Miller expresses that he is experiencing a lack of progress in speed at Misano, similar to his performance during the San Marino GP, and he believes he has reached his limit in terms of his riding skills.
He mentioned, "It's as if we've only improved by a tenth from my sprint time last week, giving the impression that we're somewhat fixed at this pace, and that's the sensation I'm getting."
"I've reached a point where I feel stuck, as if I've hit a barrier in terms of my performance and connection with the motorcycle. We need to explore new strategies to overcome this limitation."
Struggles with tire heating hinder Binder
At the start, Binder advanced to second place, just behind the race's ultimate victor, Francesco Bagnaia. However, by the conclusion of the first lap, he had dropped to fifth and subsequently fell to sixth on the following circuit.
By the third lap's conclusion, Binder had fallen 2.5 seconds behind the leader and ultimately finished 8.1 seconds behind, securing sixth place at the race's end.
He attributed this to his struggle in rapidly warming up his medium front tyre, which nearly led to two crashes on the opening lap.
"Binder remarked, 'I maintained a good pace, and clocking in at 1 minute 30.6 seconds during Q2 was my fastest lap at this circuit.'"
"I botched the sprint since the front tire didn't reach its optimal performance quickly enough, causing me nearly to lose control and veer off course at Turn 11."
"It took me a couple of laps to get comfortable, and after that, I was able to ride just fine."
"Despite not being as quick as desired, I managed to exert effort and am quite satisfied with the outcome, considering I believed I had compromised the race by the time we reached Turn 6 initially."
"I absolutely have to tackle the issue with the tire tomorrow, and then we should be all set."
He expressed, "Truly, I was fortunate to avoid an accident at Turn 6 during the first lap, and then nearly experienced another incident at Turn 11."
"Incredibly fortunate to have remained on the bike."
KTM's team leader, Francesco Guidotti, described the day as having mixed emotions, noting, "Brad secured the top spot and then fourth place in the two qualifying rounds, marking one of the most successful results we've seen this year, and honestly, we have no grievances about it.
He initially got off to a strong start but then faced challenges with maintaining the front tyre temperature in the initial laps, losing the opportunity to keep pace with the front-runners.
"Jack fell short of the Q2 mark on Friday by mere milliseconds. He struggled to secure a lap time today, and starting a Sprint race from the rear poses a significant challenge. We aim to improve tomorrow."
