Honda’s Resolve Unshaken Amidst MotoGP Struggles: Promises Major Upgrades and a Fightback in Season’s Second Half
Honda remains vigilant, with plans to test "more significant" aspects in the latter part of the season. Honda acknowledges, "We must maintain our confidence; otherwise, it's time to pack up."
Honda's poor performance streak in the MotoGP races has persisted into the 2024 season.
Joan Mir is at the forefront among the four Honda competitors in the championship standings, yet the MotoGP champion of 2020 finds himself in 18th place, having accumulated just 13 points.
So far this season, not one of the four riders representing Honda has managed to finish in the top ten, marking one of the poorest performances in the history of the premier class for the team.
Speaking about the beginning of the season, Repsol Honda's leader Alberto Puig conveyed to MotoGP.com, "It's been challenging. We haven't reached our desired position yet. We're making efforts to get there but there's still a long way to go. We find ourselves in our usual spot."
"Currently, this is our reality, and we are in the midst of a struggle, striving to keep pace and experimenting with various approaches."
"It's evident from the lap times that we haven't reached our goal yet, and we're aware of that. We're making an effort to achieve as much as we can in the limited time available."
"We're leveraging concessions and conducting extensive tests, yet significant progress remains to be made."
Acknowledging the evident, Puig conceded that enhancements are necessary for the future.
Enhancing the bicycle is our primary goal. The issue is clear to us, yet finding a resolution remains elusive.
"We are well aware of our primary issues and have a clear grasp on them. However, the solutions to these problems remain somewhat uncertain to us."
This season, Honda welcomed two fresh faces to their team, Luca Marini and Johann Zarco.
The former has had a beneficial impact on the Japanese brand, and his demonstrated speed at times has supported this.
On the flip side, Marini has found it challenging to adapt to the RC213V, indicating that the motorcycle itself is the source of his struggles.
Determined to keep fighting, Puig stated that Honda is putting all their efforts into regaining their top status in MotoGP.
Puig stated, "It's essential to maintain confidence; otherwise, it's time to leave. Our knowledge is defined by our actions."
We're aware that we're not asleep. However, whether our efforts yield success is a different matter altogether.
"During the latter half of the year, we plan to introduce several new elements, hoping they will be effective."
"However, currently, there's no assurance. At the start of the year, our plan was to experiment with various things in the second part."
"Rather than focusing on the minor details, we aim for greater achievements. With some effort, we strive to advance and better ourselves."
