**”Honda’s Joan Mir Faces ‘Unexpected Problems’ with New Engine at Austrian MotoGP”**
Honda's Joan Mir acknowledges "unforeseen issues" with the new engine
Repsol Honda's Joan Mir comments on the new engine setup in Austria
Joan Mir acknowledged that Honda's new engine setup caused "unforeseen issues" on Saturday in Austria.
Luca Marini and Mir from Repsol Honda secured the 18th and 19th positions in the qualifying session at the Red Bull Ring.
Marini concluded the sprint race in 17th place, while Mir ended the race in his starting position.
"Frankly, we're encountering unforeseen issues with this engine," Mir stated following the incident.
"Our goal is to combine all elements to deliver the best possible outcome."
“I struggled to get a good lap time during qualifying. However, in the sprint race, I managed to pick up speed and finished strong."
"I encountered an issue because my lap time was extended."
"Ultimately, the lap times turned out to be quite good, so I’m pleased with the results."
This weekend at the MotoGP round, the Repsol Honda team along with LCR’s Takaaki Nakagami are testing an updated engine. Meanwhile, Johann Zarco is using a more powerful, yet more challenging to control, engine version.
Honda riders cautioned beforehand that the new engine wouldn't instantly rescue the struggling manufacturer from their current slump.
Reflecting on the race, Mir mentioned that he had a strong start and made significant gains, but an encounter with Raul Fernandez caused him to drop roughly four positions.
"After serving the long lap penalty, I fell significantly behind, and we did our best with the situation."
"It's unfortunate because our speed was significantly better than what we managed to demonstrate during the race."
“Tomorrow’s race will present significant challenges for all the drivers due to the current weather conditions.”
Marini remarked, "To be frank, we had higher expectations for the Sprint."
"I didn't get off to a good beginning, and dealing with the carbon brakes in such hot conditions is pretty challenging."
"The advantage is that we gained additional insights for Sunday and for future improvements."
"After joining the race, we managed to maintain a decent speed despite trying to make up for lost time, but we were significantly behind due to the first lap."
