Honda’s Bold Move: Marquez Praises New Tech Boss Hire as Key to Reviving MotoGP Fortunes
Marc Marquez advises Honda to "set aside their pride" with the appointment of a new technology chief. "Employing an engineer capable of accelerating progress is an economical move for a manufacturer," he states.
Marc Marquez has talked about his previous team, Honda, and their updated plan to bring in a new technical director.
Romano Albesiano, known for turning Aprilia from the least competitive bike in MotoGP into a grand prix contender, is set to join Honda in 2025 to lead their technical division.
This marks the newest significant move by the struggling Japanese company to regain their former competitive edge.
It represents a significant shift in approach to bring on a European for an important, high-level position.
Marquez, who left Honda last year because he was unhappy with the project, admitted to Marca on Friday at the Japanese MotoGP that he was unaware.
"In my opinion, Honda possesses both the most extensive infrastructure and the biggest budget within the paddock."
"The problem lies in the fact that ultimately, the decision-makers are individuals, they are human beings, specifically three or four people responsible for overseeing the project."
"I've often mentioned that employing an engineer capable of streamlining processes is a cost-effective choice for any manufacturing plant."
"In my view, this marks another advancement for Honda as they strive to reduce the time it takes to return to peak performance, a goal they are set to accomplish."
"If a factory wants to reduce its timelines, it can be cost-effective to bring in engineers from other facilities who can provide instant solutions, eliminating the need for lengthy investigations."
I have consistently believed that regardless of how many times you're asked for another technician or how often an engineer requests more, it's still cost-effective. This is because testing parts can end up being far more expensive.
"Ultimately, you do end up finding someone, indeed. However, I consider it a success to bring on a new technical director. I am not familiar with the engineer's qualities, but pursuing that path is a success in itself."
Marquez stated, "The problem with pride in competitive settings is that it can be detrimental. During competition, there will be times when you come out on top and times when you face defeat."
When faced with defeat, it's important to set aside your ego and recognize that others may be performing more successfully.
"Some individuals grasp it early, while others comprehend it later. However, for me, it's not about lacking pride; it's about having intelligence."
"If you notice that other manufacturers, like Yamaha, are reducing their production times ahead of you, follow their lead and do likewise."
Since moving to Gresini Ducati this year, Marquez has maintained a respectful connection with his former team.
After claiming his inaugural grand prix victory riding a Ducati, he paid a visit to his old colleagues from Honda to celebrate the achievement together.
Honda has made an interesting decision by bringing on board Aprilia's Albesiano for the upcoming year.
Aleix Espargaro is set to transition from his responsibilities with Aprilia to a testing position with Honda, which will involve collaborating once more with Albesiano.
